Today’s hukamnama is by Siri Guru Arjun Devji in the Gujri raag on Ang 497 of Siri Guru Granth Sahib ji Maharaj.

Goojaree, Fifth Mehla: (497-2)

ijsu mwnuK pih krau bynqI so ApnY duiK BirAw ]
jis maanukh peh kara-o bayntee so apnai dukh bhari-aa.
Whoever I approach to ask for help, I find him full of his own troubles.

pwrbRhmu ijin irdY ArwiDAw iqin Bau swgru qirAw ]1]
paarbarahm jin ridai araaDhi-aa tin bha-o saagar tari-aa. ||1||
One who worships in his heart the Supreme Lord God, crosses over the terrifying world-ocean. ||1||

gur hir ibnu ko n ibRQw duKu kwtY ]
gur har bin ko na baritha dukh kaatai.
No one, except the Guru-Lord, can dispel our pain and sorrow.

pRBu qij Avr syvku jy hoeI hY iqqu mwnu mhqu jsu GwtY ]1] rhwau ]
parabh taj avar sayvak jay ho-ee hai tit maan mahat jas ghaatai. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Forsaking God, and serving another, one’s honor, dignity and reputation are decreased. ||1||Pause||

mwieAw ky snbMD sYn swk ikq hI kwim n AwieAw ]
maa-i-aa kay san-banDh sain saak kit hee kaam na aa-i-aa.
Relatives, relations and family bound through Maya are of no avail.

hir kw dwsu nIc kulu aUcw iqsu sMig mn bWCq Pl pwieAw ]2]
har kaa daas neech kul oochaa tis sang man baaNchhat fal paa-i-aa. ||2||
The Lord’s servant, although of lowly birth, is exalted. Associating with him, one obtains the fruits of his mind’s desires. ||2||

lwK koit ibiKAw ky ibMjn qw mih iqRsn n bUJI ]
laakh kot bikhi-aa kay binjan taa meh tarisan na boojhee.
Through corruption, one may obtain thousands and millions of enjoyments, but even so, his desires are not satisfied through them.

ismrq nwmu koit aujIAwrw bsqu Agocr sUJI ]3]
simrat naam kot ujee-aaraa basat agochar soojhee. ||3||
Remembering the Naam, the Name of the Lord, millions of lights appear, and the incomprehensible is understood. ||3||

firat firat tumHrai du-aar aa-i-aa bhai bhanjan har raa-i-aa.
Wandering and roaming around, I have come to Your Door, Destroyer of fear, O Lord King.

saaDh kay charan Dhoor jan baachhai sukh naanak ih paa-i-aa. ||4||6||7||
Servant Nanak yearns for the dust of the Satguru’s feet; in it, he finds peace. ||4||6||7||

Raag Gujri is a raag which is full of adoration and worship for Waheguru. In this beautiful raag Guru Arjun Devji says, “Jis maanukh peh kara-o bayntee so apnai dukh bhari-aa.” Jis means whichever, maanukh means human being, bayntee means to ask for help, to beg, apnai means their own, dukh means pain, bhari-aa means to be full. However I ask for help I find that they are full of pain. Every person I ask for help has their own pain. Every person who I ask to save me is also crying out to be saved. Guru sahib ji says, “Who ever is a mortal being, from the most lowly poor person to the richest king, they are all filled with their own pains.” Guru Sahib ji says, “Nanak dukhiya sabh sansaar. Oh Nanak the whole world is in pain!” Some have mental pain, some have spiritual pain, some have physical pain but the pain is there. Then what can we do if we can’t ask any other human being?

Guruji says, “Paarbarahm jin ridai araaDhi-aa tin bha-o saagar tari-aa.” Those people who have meditated upon, who have focused upon, who have done araadhaanaa, who have worshipped Paarbarahm, Waheguru, Akal Purakh, Hari; those people who adore Waheguru with all their heart for them they cross over easily this world ocean of fear in the world. No one can help me! No mortal who is finite can help you because you are looking for the infinite peace and the infinite peace can only come from the one who is infinite. Eternal peace can only come from the one who is eternal.

Gur har bin ko na baritha dukh kaatai. Without the Guru’s guidance and blessings of Waheguru, oh Hari, of Akalpurakh, of Ek Oang Kaar, no one can remove our pains. Parabh taj avar sayvak jay ho-ee hai tit maan mahat jas ghaatai. Taj means to give up. If you give up parabh, if you give up Waheguru and you become the servant of another, of a human being then your honour, your dignity, you praises, your virtues will cease. They will go.

Rahaa-o. Guruji says, “Pause and think about this.”

Maa-i-aa kay san-banDh sain saak kit hee kaam na aa-i-aa. Maa-i-aa means falsehood, ke (in this context) means through, san-banDh means relations, kit hee kaam means to not help in any way. All these relationships made through falsehood, all these friends, family, none of them in the end can help you. But Guru Arjun Devji says, “Har kaa daas neech kul oochaa tis sang man baaNchhat fal paa-i-aa.” The servant of Hari, of Waheguru, despite he may be born into a household which is considered lowly but he is still the highest. Why? Because he has the ultimate infinite peace of Waheguru running within him. He has the infinite peace of Akal Purakh pulsing through him. By associating with this person, by sitting close to this person, by talking to them, by being friends with that person, what happens? You will find the fruits of your mind. All of your mind’s desires are fulfilled.

Laakh kot bikhi-aa kay binjan taa meh tarisan na boojhee. There are thousands and millions of enjoyments of this poison, of this world around us. Through them the fire of desire is not put out. You cannot put out the fire by putting wood on to the fire. If you are throwing firewood on to the fire you are not putting it out. We think we will be able to put out the fire of our desire by buying new things, by getting more of these external things. But Guru Arjun Devji says, “No! You cannot put out a fire with firewood. You can put out a fire with peace of God’s name, with the amrit of God’s name.”

Then Guruji says, “Simrat naam kot ujee-aaraa basat agochar soojhee.” By meditating upon God’s name you will find inside your heart that the light of knowledge which shines is like thousands of lights, millions and billions of lights that have been lit at one point. Then you will understand the incomprehensible, you will understand that. What is Guru ji saying? He is saying when you start meditating upon the name of God and God’s knowledge then you will find the incomprehensible, you will understand the incomprehensible! You will become one with Waheguru.

Firat firat tumHrai du-aar aa-i-aa bhai bhanjan har raa-i-aa. Oh Waheguru, Oh God, oh destroyer of fear, oh king of kings, wondering and wondering I have come for your door. What do I ask for? SaaDh kay charan Dhoor jan baachhai sukh naanak ih paa-i-aa. The servant asks only for the dust of the feet of the holy ones. Nanak finds peace in this dust. For this dust can change the whole life and make us into angels.

Guruji is saying, “Fall and the feet of Akal purakh. Fall at the feet of the Guru. Do not fall at the feet of a human being because he cannot help you. The light of God’s name can save you.”

Gur har bin ko na baritha dukh kaatai. Parabh taj avar sayvak jay ho-ee hai tit maan mahat jas ghaatai. Rahaa-o.

Todee, Fifth Mehl:

mwnuKu ibnu bUJy ibrQw AwieAw ]
maanukh bin boojhay birthaa aa-i-aa.
Without understanding, his coming into the world is useless.

Aink swj sIgwr bhu krqw ijau imrqku EFwieAw ] rhwau ]
anik saaj seegaar baho kartaa ji-o mirtak odhaa-i-o. rahaa-o.
He puts on various ornaments and many decorations, but it is like dressing a corpse. ||Pause||

Dwie Dwie ikrpn sRmu kIno iekqR krI hY mwieAw ]
Dhaa-ay Dhaa-ay kirpan saram keeno ikatar karee hai maa-i-aa.
With great effort and exertion, the miser works to gather in the riches of Maya. ||Pause||

dwnu puMnu nhI sMqn syvw ikq hI kwij n AwieAw ]1]
daan punn nahee santan sayvaa kit hee kaaj na aa-i-aa. ||1||
He does not give anything in charity or generosity, and he does not serve the Saints; his wealth does not do him any good at all. ||1||

kir AwBrx svwrI syjw kwmin Qwtu bnwieAw ]
kar aabhran savaaree sayjaa kaaman thaat banaa-i-aa.
The soul-bride puts on her ornaments, embellishes her bed, and fashions decorations.

sMgu n pwieE Apuny Brqy pyiK pyiK duKu pwieAw ]2]
sang na paa-i-o apunay bhartay paykh paykh dukh paa-i-aa. ||2||
But if she does not obtain the company of her Husband Lord, the sight of these decorations only brings her pain. ||2||

swro idnsu mjUrI krqw quhu mUslih CrwieAw ]
saaro dinas majooree kartaa tuhu mooslahi chharaa-i-aa.
The man works all day long, threshing the husks with the pestle

Kydu BieE bygwrI inAweI Gr kY kwim n AwieAw ]3]
khayd bha-i-o baygaaree ni-aa-ee ghar kai kaam na aa-i-aa. ||3||
He is depressed, like a forced laborer, and so he is of no use to his own home. ||3||

BieE AnugRhu jw kau pRB ko iqsu ihrdY nwmu vswieAw ]
bha-i-o anoograhu jaa ka-o parabh ko tis hirdai naam vasaa-i-aa.
But when God shows His Mercy and Grace, He implants the Naam, the Name of the Lord, within the heart.

swDsMgiq kY pwCY pirAau jn nwnk hir rsu pwieAw ]4]2]4]
saaDhsangat kai paachhai pari-a-o jan naanak har ras paa-i-aa. ||4||2||4||

Search the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, O Nanak, and find the sublime essence of the Lord. ||4||2||4||

Today’s Hukamnama is by Guru Arjan Dev Ji, in the raag todee on Ang 712 of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaj. 
Guru Arjan Dev Ji with this Hukamnama has blessed us.  The todee raag is a very famous raag.  The feeling that todee conveys is one which gives birth to wisdom within the soul of the human being.  The todee raag, humbly, points out to the human being what the human being is unaware of.  It will bring things, which we rarely think about but are important into our focus.
