Today’s Hukamnama is by Guru Arjan Dev Ji Maharaj in Raag Dhanaasree on Ang 671 in Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. Raag Dhanaasree is a Raag of complete "achintaa", which is actually mentioned in this Hukamnama. A state where there is no need for anxiety or worries, where everything fits into place.
"Jab tay darsan bhaytay saaDhoo bhalay dinas o-ay aa-ay."
"Jab tay" means since when/since the time, "darsan bhaytay" where "bhaytay means to be blessed with, to find, to obtain and "darsan" means the blessed vision. Since that time that I have been blessed with the vision of the saints; "saaDhoo" means the one who has done "saaDhana" of (means to perfect, heal, conquer) their minds and without "saaDhana" there is no "saaDhoo". So that person who has healed, conquered his mind is a "saaDhoo". Guru Ji is saying since that time that I have met the "saaDhoo", since I have been blessed with the vision of the holy saints, "bhalay dinas o-ay aa-ay". "Bhalay" means blessed, prosperous, and great. "Dinas" means days. "o-ay aa-ay" means those ("o-ay") which have come ("aa-ay"). Since I have been blessed with the blessed vision of meeting with the holy people "saaDhoo"s, all my days have been blessed.
"Mahaa anand sadaa kar keertan purakh biDhaataa paa-ay. ||1||"
"Mahaa" means the greatest, "anand" means bliss. I have found the greatest heavenly bliss. How? "Sadaa kar keertan" where "sadaa" means always. What do I do? "Kar keertan". I sing "keertan", the praises of the Lord. The word "keertan" comes form the word keerti that means to praise. Guru Ji is saying I have found the greatest everlasting bliss. How? By doing "keertan". When? "Sada" (all the time). "BiDhaataa" means the one that shapes his own destiny and "purakh" means being. The one who shapes destiny, God, I have found him ("paa-ay"). I have found God through singing his praises. Through finding God and singing his praises I have found everlasting peace/bliss.
"Ab mohi raam jaso man gaa-i-o."
"Ab" means now, "mohi" means I, "jaso" means the praises and "raam" means God, the one who is permeating through everyone and the entire world. That Lord who is permeating through everyone, I sing his praises. Where? "Man gaa-i-o" means in my mind where "man" means mind and "gaa-i-o" means to sing.
"Bha-i-o pargaas sadaa sukh man meh satgur pooraa paa-i-o. ||1|| Rahaa-o."
"Pargas" means enlightenment, to be illuminated, to be filled with holy light. "Bha-i-o" means to be blessed with, to have obtained. Now I have obtained this holy light "pargaas", which has taken away the darkness of my ignorance. What else have I found? "Sadaa sukh" which means everlasting ("sadaa") peace ("sukh") inside my mind; "man" means mind, "meh" means inside. Why have I found all this? "Satgur" means the true Guru who is "pooraa" which means perfect in all respects. The true Guru who is perfect in all respects I have found him "paa-i-o". Due this my mind is enlightened and I am blessed with ever lasting peace. "Rahaa-o." Guru Ji says pause an think about this.
"Gun niDhaan rid bheetar vasi-aa taa dookh bharam bha-o bhaagaa."
"Gun" means virtues and "niDhaan" means treasure of. All virtues, great things, the treasure of (God). "Rid," means heart and "bheetar" means inside. I have relaised God is inside me, inside my heart. That treasure is inside me. "Vasi-aa" means to abide. God abides within me and from that day I realised "dookh" (pain), bharam" (doubt), "bha-o" (fear) is dispelled/vanquished "bhaagaa". These things have been thrown out of me. I no longer have pain, doubt or fear because I realised God is within me. People can give pain to my mind or body but my soul can never be affected. Not by death, not by illness or slander. God is within me and that soul is what is truly me.
"Bha-ee paraapat vasat agochar raam naam rang laagaa. ||2||"
"Paraapat" is to find, "bha-ee" means to be blessed, "vasat" means commodity. Gochar means to understand, comprehend something. Something, which is "agochar", means it is outside of our understanding, outside of the pure human mind. I have found that commodity which is beyond my wildest dreams. What is that commodity? "Raam naam" means the name of the Lord. That thing that cannot be comprehended by the human mind, I have found that within my soul. "Rang," means the color of love and "laagaa" means to be imbued in. I have been imbued int his colour of love.
"Chint achintaa soch asochaa sog lobh moh thaakaa."
"Chint" means to be anxious, to worry. Guru Ji says at first I was in "chint" I was worried. But now I am "achintaa" (free of all anxiety, worries). First I kept thinking over things. I kept procrastinating "soch". But now I have become "asochaa" which means above thoughts, above worry. "Sog" means grief, pain. "Lobh" means greed, "moh" means attachment and "thaakaa" means to be worn out which basically mean have gone. My grief, which came from me being greedy, has gone. That greed which came from my attachments to the world, they have all gone.
"Ha-umai rog mitay kirpaa tay jam tay bha-ay bibaakaa. ||3||"
"Rog" means the disease of; "Ha-umai" means egotism, "mitay" taken out of me, has been cured, "kirpaa tay" means the grace of God, "jam" means the angel of death, the messenger of death, "bibaakaa" means not to be scared of anymore. Guru Ji is saying, once that disease of egotism was cured inside me by the grace of the Guru, I was released frmt he fear of the messenger of death. Guru Ji is saying in Asa di War, "ho vich aaeiaa ho vich gaeiaa". It is because of ego that we come back on this earth again and again. Guru Ji is saying, once I was cured of that iralised the soul was immortal and that this body was going to vanish anyway. The only state of immortality is to loose yourself into God. We cannot think any of this: mind or body is ours. We truly are that soul. When we realise that we are cured of the disease of egotism. Then the messenger of death cannot do anything to us.
"Gur kee tahal guroo kee sayvaa gur kee aagi-aa bhaanee."
"Tahal" means to work for, to serve upon. Doing the work of the Guru "Guroo kee sayvaa" (the selfless service of the Guru) and living by the Guru’s command, decree, word "aagi-aa". "Bhaanee" means I have fallen in love with them, I love them. I love doing this. I don’t do "sayvaa" because I have to but because I love to and I live to.
"Kaho naanak jin jam tay kaadhay tis gur kai kurbaanee. ||4||4||"
"Kaho naanak" means Nanak says. "Jin" means who, "jam" means from the messenger of death, "kaadhay" means released me. That Guru who released me from the fear of death "tis gur kai kurbaanee". "Kurbaanee" means I am a sacrifice to, "tis gur" means to that Guru. To that Guru I am a sacrifice. Guru Arjan Dev Ji is saying to Guru Ram Das Ji, who took me out of this fear of death and made me realise I am truly immortal.
May Guru Ji bless us. May we sing his praises. May the ego within us die. May we realise that we are one with the creator.
