English translation of the daily Hukamnama.

Today’s hukamnamma is by Guru Arjan Dev Ji and is in Raag Soohee. Raag Soohee contains the love of the soul bride; the deep, undying, crimson coloured love which runs through the soul bride. Through this deep undying color Guru Arjan Dev Ji talks to us today. This shabad is also in the third house, which means that this shabad is not just sung in the soohee raag, but in the teen taal.

"Gobindaa gun gaa-o da-i-aalaa."

"Gun" means praises, "gaa-o" means to sing. I sing the praises, but of who? "Bind" means seed, "go" means the world. The seed of the world. The Lord of the Universe. "Da-i-aalaa", the one who is merciful all the time. The creator of the universe, who is always merciful.

"Darsan dayh pooran kirpaalaa. Rahaa-o."

"Darsan" means vision, experience. "Dayh" means please give me. "Pooran" means perfect, "kirpaalaa" means compassionate. Oh perfect compassionate Lord, please allow me to experience you, to reach that exalted state where I see you in all. "Rahaa-o." Pause and think about this. Guruji in essence here is saying that if you want to experience the creator Lord, you must sing his praises.

"Kar kirpaa tum hee partipaalaa."

"Kar" means to do, "kirpa" means grace. Please give me your grace, please give me your help. "Tum hee" means you are the one, "partipaalaa" means to nourish me, cherish me, look after me.

"Jee-o pind sabh tumraa maalaa. ||1||"

"Jee-o" means my soul, "pind" means my body. "Sabh" means all. My soul, my body, everything, is yours, is your property. "Maalaa" means property, "tumraa" means yours. It all belongs to you God, for you are the creator.

"Amrit naam chalai jap naalaa."

"Amrit" means the ambrosial, sweet, undying nectar of the Naam, of the name of the Lord. If you fall in love with this, concentrate upon this, it will go with you, in this world and the next. Guruji says many times that the naam is the only thing that will accompany you. And we think we have our friends, people around us. Yet Guruji has also said that when we are happy many people are attracted to us. Yet when we go through grief, then people run away. So Guruji says meditate on the creator Lord, because when all others turn away from you, that will be the only thing that will accompany you. The name of God will be your support.

"Naanak jaachai sant ravaalaa. ||2||32||38||"

Nanak asks for, begs for, pleads for… What does Nanak beg for? "Sant ravaala". "Ravaala" means dust, and "sant" means the saints, the ones who are totally in tune with the Lord. Guruji says I beg for the dust of the feet of such people, who have the nectar of the Lord’s name inside them, and have realised it.

So Guruji is saying sing the praises of the creator Lord, and you will find everything within yourself. You will find the darsan of God. The name will go with you and cherish you at all times.
