Katha by Ek Oang Kaar Kaur ji

In the hukam today Guru Arjun is helping us understand how to work with the different juices of the body. We have so many feelings inside of us and some of our feelings can take us to the dark places, the poisons. By working with the Guru’s word and our mind we can find the spirit of divine inside of us. And that consciousness helps us to conquer death. So we will go through line by line and see if we can understand the total message.

In the first line of the hukam, Guru ji is letting us know that when we sing with appreciation and gratitude the story of that infinite, unconquerable, totally victorious and perfect divinity that is within us and within which we are contained and the whole universe is contained, then our poisons of inappropriate sexual desires and anger and burnt away. So singing actually creates a change inside of us where these sicknesses and inappropriate sexual desires and anger just get burnt out of our body.

In the second line, Guruji is saying that when you are with the company of other people who are also practicing this disciple of singing constantly about the perfection of the divine then it gives you tremendous grace and power through the Guru to cross over this ocean of fire with all the fires of poison, how they burn us and how our life is an endless vast ocean of those fires. But being with other people who are singing gives you that power to cross over.

In the third line, the Guru is saying that you know this Guru we have, this sound of wisdom is absolutely perfect. By meditating on Him we can destroy doubt. And doubt is a darkness that clouds our mind; doubt keeps us from seeing the divine from inside us, the divine inside everything around us. But the perfect Guru, the perfect sound of wisdom gives us the power when we sing to destroy that darkness, to destroy the fire so that we can see the divine inside of ourselves and inside of everything.

And in the next line, the Guru is saying that just by being in the state of love and devotion and remembering that the Transcendent master is really close. There is nothing to be afraid of because the divine is really, really close, right near you, so close to you. (Pause)

The next line, Har Har is the continual experience of the divine. Naam is the divine identity that lives inside of us and Nidhan what a treasure that is. So we start to see that continual divinity everywhere and experience that identity of divinity inside us. This is just unbelievable, a treasure that is given to us, a blessing. When we experience it, it creates inside of us a raas, a juice that has an actual taste. It is a very different taste from the taste of anger, from the taste of sexual desires. And Guru is saying that when you feel this Har Har Naam, you drink in that taste that comes to you and when you do that then your mind and your body actually go through a change. They become satisfied. The poison are from our dissatisfaction but through the taste of the divine, when we feel and experience the taste of the divine, what that see and feel changes inside of our mind and body become tremendously satisfied with the experience.

So that Transcendent is in everything and we can see that it’s pervading and permeating all things. So where is the coming, where is the going? Where does is begin or where does it end when that one divinity is permeating all things.

So when the mind is dwelling with Gopal, it’s dwelling with that divinity that is permeating everything it gives us the same benefit as all the different spiritual practices. Jap the meditation, Tap the practice of the inner fire, Sanjam the self disciple, Gyan the wisdom. We experience the benefit of them all just when our mind is dwelling in the perception and the awareness of that great divine One.

The divine and the identity we can find inside of ourselves and in everything around us is a priceless jewel. And those who flow with the integrity of the Guru’s words they are the ones who receive this experience of this divine identity. And in that experience everything becomes perfect in our lives. The mind gets out of judging and accessing what’s right? What’s wrong? What’s good? What’s bad? Just by experiencing the divine identity by meditating upon Guru’s words it excels as a power that brings all of our affairs into perfected state.

When we get into that experience of that perfection of the reality by singing the divine in everything, then all the struggles stop. All the suffering, all the pain just dissipates, it just goes. Even the experience of death itself doesn’t have the power to strangle us. The noose is cut away.

Nanak says that these things happen when the kindness of the Transcendent master touches us. That kindness is always there! It’s just the question of whether we can open ourselves to it or not. But when we can receive in that kindness descend then our mind and body bloom into what their real purpose is. They bloom into the expression of the divine identity that lives within us.

WaheGuru Ji Ka Khalsa! WaheGuru Ji Ki Fateh!

Katha by Sukha Singh ji

The fifth light of Guru Nanak Dev ji is talking to us today in Raag Sorath, a Raag which overwhelms the mind, heart and soul, bring them into the love of God. Guru Arjan Dev ji is saying gun gaavahu, gun means praises, gaavahu means sing, who should we sing the praises of, the Sikhs ask; pooran, the One who is perfect, abinaasee, One who never perishes, the imperishable, perfect God. Then what will happen? If you do that kaam, desire, krodhh, anger, bikh, poison, the poison kaam, desire, krodhh, anger, jaarae, be burnt from inside you. They will be purged from within you.

mehaa bikham agan ko saagar, mehaa bikham, mehaa means great, bikham means dangerous, the greatly dangerous, what agan ko saagar , saagar means ocean, agan means fire, the greatly dangerous ocean of fire, you will cross across that, oudhhaarae. But, with who, with saadhhoo sa(n)g, the company of the holy, sitting in the company of the holy, they will bring you through that fire, the ocean that surrounds you.

poorai gur, the perfect Guru, maettiou, has dispelled, has taken away, has removed, bharam, doubt a(n)dhhaeraa, darkness, the darkness of doubt has been taken away by the Guru; Gu means darkness, ru means light; Guru is the one who takes you from darkness into light.

bhaj praem bhagath prabh naeraa, the Guru told me bhaj, meditate upon, with prem, with love, meditate upon God with prem, with love, and bhagati, with devotion, because prabh, God is naeraa, closer than close; rehaao, pause, Guru ji is saying pause and think about this.

har har naam, the name of the Lord, nidhhaan ras peeaa, nidhhaan means treasure, ras essence, peeaa, means drink; I drank the essence of God’s name, the greatest treasure; then what happened? man than, my mind and body, rehae, remain, aghaaee, satisfied, fulfilled, there is no other fulfillment I need, the name of God fulfilled everything within me, it fulfilled my desire. Once your desires are gone, does not matter what you need, you will not need anything, you have no desires.

jath kath, everywhere, poor rehiou, pervading through all, is paramaesar, is God, God is pervading through all in everything; kath aavai kath jaaee, where can there be a place that God comes and goes, God does not come or go, God is abinaasee, God can never come or go, God is permanent, the only eternal thing here.

jap thap sa(n)jam giaan thath baethaa jis man vasai guopaalaa, the person jis, that person in whose man, mind, vasai, dwell, guopaalaa, One who looks after this world, God, that person in whose mind God dwells, what happens to them? They acquire jap, meditative state, thap, state of self-restraint, sa(n)jam means purity, giaan , knowledge, and they become a thath baethaa , they become a pool of spirituality. What they need to do, they don’t need, you can’t get to go through spirituality you can only get to go through love. That is what Guru ji is saying.

naam rathan jin guramukh paaeiaa, the rathan, the diamond of Name, of the Name of God, jin guramukh paaeiaa, guramukh, the one who follows the Guru, who has found, who has paaeiaa, the diamond of the Name, thaa kee pooran ghaalaa, ghaalaa means works, poorn means to be satisfied, that person who finds the Naam, who is given the Naam by the Guru, only his works, his sewa is satisfied, fulfilled and accepted in the court of the Lord.

kal kalaes, kalaes means arguments, kal means of this kaljug, the dark arguments of this age have mittae, have been taken away; and what else has been taken away, dhukh sagalae, all pain has been removed from that person, why, because kaattee, cut through, jam kee faasaa, faasaa means noose, the noose of death is cut from their necks, so they are free forever, they are eternal, they are immortal.

kahu naanak prabh kirapaa dhhaaree, says Nanak, prabh, God has showered, dhhaaree, His Kirapaa, His Grace; then what happened? man than, my mind and body, bheae, became bigaasaa, blossomed. Your mind and body will blossom, if you fall into God. That is what Guru Arjan Dev ji is saying to us today. The only way to dispel that darkness is to fall at the feet of the Guru and to love God.

poorai gur maettiou bharam a(n)dhhaeraa || bhaj praem bhagath prabh naeraa || rehaao ||

WaheGuru Ji Ka Khalsa! WaheGuru Ji Ki Fateh!
