Guru Amar Daas Ji Maharaj is talking to us today in the Vadhans Raag and Guru ji is saying:

thrisanaa dhaadhhee jal muee jal jal karae pukaar, thrisanaa dhaadhhee jal muee, jal means to burn, muee means to die, thrisanaa means in desire, in desire this world is burning and dying, burning and dying, dying and burning, burning and dying; jal jal karae pukaar, burning again and again, again and again, karae means to do, pukar means to cry out, cries out in pain. The reason why we come on this earth again and again is because of our desires, because we could not kill our desires in our last life, so we have to come back again to fulfill our desires.

But, we gather more desires, then we leave and come back, and this vicious circle carries on. Everyone is crying out I need this, I need this, I need this, people want everything, yet they want more. A person who has one thousand pounds, wants two thousand pounds, person who has two thousand pounds, wants three thousand pounds, person who has to a million wants two million, person who has got two million wants a billion, person who has got a billion wants a trillion, and this goes on and on and on. He just wants more and more. You buy one car, you want two, you buy two, you want three, you buy three, you want four. He does not stop. You get the latest model of a car, a new model comes out, you want that; you get the latest model of the PC, a new model comes out; you get this software, new software comes.

Never is there a point, where you are satisfied. You think I will get this new toy, this new present, this new car, this new hi-fi, this new PC and that is it – that will fulfill my life. Your life is worth more than a few hundred pounds, a few hundred dollars, a few hundred rupees. It is worth a whole lot more.

sathigur seethal jae milai fir jalai n dhoojee vaar, if you meet, milai with the sathigur, what does he do? He is seethal, He is cooling, He is soothing; if you meet the soothing Guru, the cooling Guru, fir, then jalai n dhoojee vaar, dhoojee vaar means again, jalai means to burn, you won’t ever burn again.

naanak vin naavai nirabho ko nehee jichar sabadh n karae veechaar, O Nanak, vin naavai, without the name of God, nirabho ko nehee, no one can be fearless, jichar sabadh n karae veechaar, till that person understands and meditates upon the Shabad, upon the Guru’s words. People think that they have become fearless by wielding the sword, by attacking someone else. The only to become fearless is by meditating upon God’s name, by meeting the Guru and putting your life in the hands of the Guru and accepting everything that the Guru says as Truth. How can anyone remove fear, you cannot remove fear by buying a shot gun, you cannot remove your fear by arming yourself. The only way you can arm yourself to remove fear is with the Guru’s words, and if you do not have the Guru’s words, you have nothing.

ma 3, Mahala thheeja, Guru ji says in the Mahala,

bhaekhee agan n bujhee chi(n)thaa hai man maahi, bhaekhee agan n bujhee, bhaekhee means by having an outward appearance, by having an outward appearance, agan means fire, n bujhee, means is not put out; you cannot put out the fire, by just dressing in a certain way. chi(n)thaa hai, there is worry and anxiety, man maahi, within the mind. The mind is full of anxiety, you have to clean it outside and inside.

varamee maaree saap n marai thio nigurae karam kamaahi, varamee maaree saap n marai, by destroying the varamee, the layer of the snake, where the snake lives, saap n marai, the snake does not die. Just by filling in the hole where the snake does not mean that the snake is going to die. Guru ji is saying just by putting this body into a certain way, does not mean that inside the mind is going to be taken care of. thio nigurae karam kamaahi, just like it is useless to only destroy the snake’s house, without destroying the snake, in the same way, thio, nigurae, without the Guru, karam kamaahi, doing deeds, it is just the same thing; you get nothing.

sathigur dhaathaa saeveeai sabadh vasai man aae, sathigur dhaathaa saeveeai , by doing sewa of the dhaathaa, of the Great Giver, the sathiguru, the True Guru, sabadh, the Word of God, vasai, comes to abide, man aae, in your mind. Then what happens?

man than seethal saa(n)th hoe thrisanaa agan bujhaae, man than , your mind and body, seethal saa(n)th hoe, becomes soothed and peaceful; thrisanaa agan bujhaae, the fire of thrisanaa, of desire is bujhaae, is quenched.

sukhaa sir sadhaa sukh hoe jaa vichahu aap gavaae, sukhaa sir, the highest of all peace, sadhaa sukh, eternal peace, hoe, is found, how? Jaa, how, vichahu, from within you, aap means your ego, gavaae means lose. By doing sewa you lose your ego, then you get the greatest peace.

guramukh oudhaasee so karae j sach rehai liv laae, guramukh oudhaasee so karae , only that guramukh, only that follower of the Guru, oudhaasee so karae, becomes detached from the world, j, who, sach rehai liv laae, who is attached, laae liv, means love, constantly to the Truth, who is constantly attached to the Truth.

chi(n)thaa mool n hovee har naam rajjaa aaghaae, chi(n)thaa mool n hovee, chi(n)thaa means anxiety, mool means even little, n hovee, means not to affect, anxiety does not even come near that person, why? Because har naam rajjaa aaghaae, because that person is rajjaa, is satisfied, aaghaae, is satiated with the name of God, is not affected by any anxiety, not affected by any worry. He is happy he has the name of God. What more does he or she want ?

naanak naam binaa neh shhootteeai houmai pachehi pachaae, naanak naam binaa , O Nanak, naam binaa, without the Name, neh shhootteeai, no one can be saved without the Name. houmai pachehi pachaae, without the Name you are ruined, you are devoured by your ego, houmai.

pourree, pauree Guru Amardas ji says

jinee har har naam dhhiaaeiaa thinee paaeiarrae sarab sukhaa, jinee har har naam dhhiaaeiaa, those people who have meditated upon the Name of Waheguru, har har, thinee, those people, paaeiarrae, obtain, sarab means all, sukhaa means peace, they obtain all peace, all comfort.

sabh janam thinaa kaa safal hai jin har kae naam kee man laagee bhukhaa, sabh means all, janam means life, their entire life, thinaa ka, of those people is safal, safal means to be fruitful; the entire life of that person is fruitful, is dhan, is blessed. jin har kae naam kee man laagee bhukhaa, in whose mind there is bhukhaa, the hunger for God’s Name. Those people, their entire life is blessed, who have the hunger for God’s Name inside them.

jinee gur kai bachan aaraadhhiaa thin visar geae sabh dhukhaa, those people who have gur kai bachan, who have meditated upon the Guru’s word, thin visar geae sabh dhukhaa, those people forget visar geae, sabh means all, dhukhaa, pain. So much pain will afflict them in their life. Bhai Matidas is cut into half, Bhai Satidas is burnt alive, Bhai Mani Singh is cut into bits, Bhai Taru Singh’s scalp is removed, Baba Deep Singh’s head is cut off, Guru Gobind Singh’s four sons were killed, Guru Arjan Dev ji sits on the burning hot plate – but by meditating upon God, they forget all these pains. The women in Mir’s jail, they had their kids killed in front of them. Because they have the Guru’s word, they are not affected by any of these pains.

thae sa(n)th bhalae gurasikh hai jin naahee chi(n)th paraaee chukhaa, thae sa(n)th bhalae, those saints are blessed, gurasikh hai, they are great gursikhs, jin naahee chi(n)th paraaee chukhaa, who don’t have any worries apart from, who care for nothing apart from God; paraaee means other, chukhaa means something else. Those people who have no worries about anything else, they don’t care about any human being, they don’t care about any king, any emperor.

dhhan dhha(n)n thinaa kaa guroo hai jis a(n)mrith fal har laagae mukhaa, dhhan dhha(n)n, blessed and blessed, thinaa kaa, means their, guroo means Guru, jis a(n)mrith fal har laagae mukhaa, great is that Guru of theirs, blessed is that Guru, jis a(n)mrith fal har laagae mukhaa, in whose mouth there is the ambrosial fruit of God’s Name.

This Hukamnama is by Guru Amardas ji, who did sewa for 12 years of Guru Angad Dev ji. He is saying to us, do sewa, if you want to burn in desires, then burn. If you want to be saved, then do sewa. Fall at the feet of the great gursikhs. Don’t just be a sikh outwardly, be a sikh inwardly. Be a sikh who is jeeon nirmal, baharon nirmal, who is pure within, pure without, pure internally, pure externally, who is the embodiment of complete perfection in this world.

thae sa(n)th bhalae gurasikh hai jin naahee chi(n)th paraaee chukhaa || dhhan dhha(n)n thinaa kaa guroo hai jis a(n)mrith fal har laagae mukhaa ||6||

Waheguru ji ka Khalsa! Waheguru ji ki Fateh!
