Guru Arjan Dev Ji Maharaj, Sachey Paatshah Ji is speaking to us in Sorath Raag.

In the first line of the Hukamnama Guru Maharaj Ji says: sukhee-ay ka-o paykhai sabh sukheeaa rogee kai bhaanai sabh rogee

sukhee means someone who is happy, the individual who is happy, to him or her, kao - that person, paykhai- that person’s eyes. that person’s understanding , sabh sukheeaa - everyone is happy. But any understanding for the person who is sick or diseased he or she sees everyone as sick or diseased. What Guru Ji Sahib is saying that we project our own feelings, our own thoughts, our own hang-ups, our own attachments to the things around us. We are happy we look outside everything seems to be happy if we are happy half empty jug will seem half full to us and if we are not then half empty jug will seem as half empty to us.

Then Guru Ji says: karan karaavanhaar su-aamee aapan haath sanjogee

Waheguru Ji is karan karaavanhaar, He is the who acts through karan and karaavanhaar, He is the one who causes everything to happen. Waheguru Ji is our Lord forever. In Waheguru Ji’s hands is our union with him.

man meyrey jin apna bharam gavaata

O my mind, jin - that person, apna bharam gavaata - who has lost the sense of his own confusion, that person who has been exalted from the state of ego, who has realized that there is more beyond this state, one who merges in with Akaal Purakh who is all around.

tis kai bhaanai ko-ay na bhoolaa jin saglo barahm pachhaataa. rahaa-o.

tis kai bhaanai - Its the understanding of that person; koay na bhoolaa - no one is off the path, everyone is following the path that he has to follow. jin saglo brahm pachaataa - because that person has realized or perceived, recognized that the Brahm - Akaal Purakh, the creative being is everywhere and in everyone. rehao - Guru Ji says to pause and think about this. Next time you are looking at something, are you projecting your thoughts and seeing Brahm in that thing?

sant sang jaa kaa man seetal oh jaanai saglee thaaNdhee.

The one who has taken the sant sang, sits in the society of the saints, jaa kaa man seetal- through sitting in the society of saints that person’s mind becomes calmed. oh jaaney That person understands everything. Everything is in Waheguru’s game therefore it becomes joyful and happy.

ha-umai rog jaa kaa man bi-aapat oh janam marai billaatee.

That person who has the rog, the disease of haumai - ego, that mind is biaapat - afflicted, that mind is diseased by this illness of ego. oh janam marai billaatee - that person is born and dies, crying out in pain. Why does that person cry in pain? Because that person with ego believes in I exist. And when that I goes out in existence then naturally that person feels pain, however the one who has already died realizes that there is only you, that person has no pain. That person has embraced the pain of letting the ego die.

gi-aan anjan jaa kee naytree parhi-aa taa ka-o sarab pargaasaa

That person whose eyes has been blessed with the amjam - ointment of giaan - spiritual knowledge, taa kao sarab pargaasaa - for that person everything is clear, enlightened. That person sees everything in new light.

agi-aan anDhayrai soojhas naahee bahurh bahurh bharmaataa

For that person who is in the agiaan andhayrai - darkness of ignorance, that person cannot recognize anything, cannot see anything and bahurh bharmaataa - that person wanders round and round in confusion and doubt.

sun baynantee su-aamee apunay naanak ih sukh maagai

O please listen to this humble plead, to this prayer of mine, O my suaamee, O my master, my Lord, O my Akaal Purakh, Waheguru, Nanak asks only for this happiness, Nanak begs for this happiness.

jah keertan tayraa saaDhoo gaavahi tah mayraa man laagai

Wherever someone sings your praises, your sadhus, your saints, any one of the saints sings your praises, wherever that place is, may my mind O Waheguru Ji be attached forever to that place. May my consciousness be attached to that place forever.

Guru Ji is telling us the state of that person who lives in ego and of that person who lives in divine love. The person who is happy sees everyone happy and the person who is diseased sees everyone diseased. The person who is reliant sees the light of God shining through all, through everything.

Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh
