Guru Arjan Dev ji speaks to us in the Gujaree Raag, a raag which has a feeling of seriousness, a feeling time is passing away and that you need to cherish every moment, you need to realize that time is passing – that you need to live each moment.
Guru Sahib ji says, nadhee thara(n)dharree maiddaa khoj n khu(n)bhai ma(n)jh muhabath thaeree, thara(n)dharree means to cross, as I cross the nadhee, the ocean, the stream, nadhee means river, maiddaa means mine, n khu(n)bhai means to not get stuck. Guru Sahib ji is saying as I cross the river of this world, of this maya, of this illusion, of this universe, of this life, maiddaa khoj n khu(n)bhai, my feet, we could say mind, is not getting khu(n)bhai, is not getting stuck in what? in desires, in hatred, in ego. Why is my foot not getting stuck? Why am I not falling into desires in this ocean, why am I not falling into hatred, why am I not falling into ego, why am I not falling into greed? Because, ma(n)jh muhabath thaeree, because this soul is filled with muhabath thaeree, with your love, with thaeree muhabath, muhabath means love. Because I am filled with love for You, O Waheguru!
tho seh charanee maiddaa heearraa seetham har naanak thulehaa baerree, tho seh means in your O Lord, seh means Lord, charanee means feet, mai(n)ddaa means mine, heearraa means heart, seetham means to be attached, O Waheguru, my heart, my heearaa, is seetham, is attached to your charanee, to your feet, Waheguru; har naanak thulehaa baerree, and Hari, O Waheguru, O Hari, You are the thulehaa baeree, You are the thulehaa, You are the raft, You are the baeree, You are the boat for Nanak to cross across this ocean of fear. You are my boat, You are my raft, You are my support to cross through this ocean.
