English translation of the daily Hukamnama

WaheGuru Ji Ka Khalsa! WaheGuru Ji Ki Fateh!

The Hukamnama today is by Guru Arjan Dev Ji in Raag Dhanaasree on Ang 679 of Siri Guru Granth Sahib ji.

Dhanaasaree, Fifth Mehla:

Bey ikRpwl dieAwl goibMdw AMimRqu irdY isMcweI ]
bheae kirapaal dhaeiaal gobi(n)dhaa a(n)mrith ridhai si(n)chaaee ||
The Lord of the Universe has become kind and merciful; His Ambrosial Nectar permeates my heart.

nav nidhh ridhh sidhh har laag rehee jan paaee ||1||
The nine treasures, riches and the miraculous spiritual powers of the Siddhas cling to the feet of the Lord’s humble servant. ||1||

The Saints are in ecstasy everywhere.

Within the home, and outside as well, the Lord and Master of His devotees is totally pervading and permeating everywhere. ||1||Pause||

No one can equal one who has the Lord of the Universe on his side.

The fear of the Messenger of Death is eradicated, remembering Him in meditation; Nanak meditates on the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||2||2||33||

Katha by Guruka Singh ji

In this hukam, he talks about what happens when you live your life merged in God. And he says that God takes care of all your affairs through his kindness; that your heart is filled with sweetness. All the treasures of the earth run to the one who serves the Lord’s will, and all the spiritual powers run to the one who serves the Lord’s will. That, when he lives in the realm of God, he doesn’t chase after honors, and doesn’t chase after treasures and riches, but they follow that one. And this Sant lives in a state of ecstasy. Always, no matter where he travels, he hears the presence of God everywhere within and without.

And Guru ji ends by saying, no one can equal that person who lives merged with God. Fear of death flies away, and death is recognized for what it truly is. Remembering the One, meditating on the Naam, that is how Nanak lives his life, in that state of love, that state of ecstasy.

The Hukamnama today is by Guru Arjan Dev Ji in Dhanaasree Raag on Ang 679 of Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaj. Raag Dhanaasree is a Raag which if we listen to it, all our worries, all our anxieties will disappear and we are left in peace and harmony.

Bha-ay kirpaal da-i-aal gobindaa amrit ridai sinchaa-ee.

Bha-ay means to become, kirpaal means merciful, da-i-aal means charitable. Who has become merciful and charitable upon us? Who is blessing us with his grace? Gobindaa the seed of the world, God, Waheguru. In His glory, in His mercy what has Waheguru blessed us with? Amrit ridai sinchaa-ee. Amrit means the immortal, ambrosial nectar of His love, of His Naam. Ridai means in my heart and sinchaa-ee means to fill. He has filled my heart with His immortal Naam, with His immortal love. By filling my heart with immortal love He has blessed me with immortality.

Nav niDh riDh siDh har laag rahee jan paa-ee. ||1||

Nav niDh riDh siDh means the nine treasures, all the treasures of the world. By Indian thought the nine treasures of the world, encapsulated all the treasures of the world. The nine treasures were listed as such:

According to Indian thought, the above 9 treasures encapsulated all other treasures of the world. This reference to nine treasures appears about 39 times in the Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. The nine treasures are not just physical but are talking on a spiritual basis too. All the nine treasures, all the riDh siDh, the miraculous spiritual powers, what do they do? Laag rahee means they attach themselves to jan, servants, paa-ee feet. They come and attach themselves to the servant’s feet. Many people run around saying ‘I want to get this miraculous power and then I can do this’ The person that loves God, the miraculous power comes and bows before him or her. They don’t even acknowledge them as they are imbued in God’s love. They don’t even look at these miraculous powers and don’t even care they are following them around.

Santan ka-o anad sagal hee jaa-ee.

Santan ka-o means for the Saints, anad means spiritual, eternal ecstasy, sagal means all, hee jaa-ee means everywhere. In all places, in every situation, the Saints, the beloved of God are in spiritual ecstasy. No one can take that away from them, no-one can take them out of that state.

Garihi baahar thaakur bhagtan kaa rav rahi-aa sarab thaa-ee. ||1|| Rahaa-o.

Garihi means inside the house, inside themselves, baahar means outside. These two words together means internally and externally. Thaakur means the Lord, bhatan kaa means of the devotees, rav rahi-aa means is permeating everywhere, sarab thaa-ee in all places. Why are they in ecstasy everywhere? They have realized God is everywhere. He is looking after them everywhere. Rahaa-o, Guru Ji is saying pause and think about this today.

Taa ka-o ko-ay na pahuchanhaaraa jaa kai ang gusaa-ee.

Taa ka-o means that person, ko-ay means another and na means there is no. There is no other pahuchanhaaraa equal to that person. There is no other equal to that person jaa kai with whom, ang, which literally means body part, closer then a body part, gusaa-ee means God. Gu means the world and saa-ee means the Lord. There is no person equal to that person on earth, who believes God is closer than his body part. Who believes God is so close that he has actually become part of God.

Jam kee taraas mitai jis simrat naanak naam Dhi-aa-ee. ||2||2||33||

Taraas means fear, jam kee means of the messengers of death, mitai means to be eradicated, jis means by whose, simrat means in meditation. Who do we meditate upon so that the fear of the messengers’ of deaths gets taken away? Guru Ji is saying naam Dhi-aa-ee, oh Nanak, meditate upon the name of that One, that One Lord, that One Waheguru, upon on whose meditation the greatest fear is taken away. The greatest fear is death. If you eradicate that, you eradicate every single fear in your life.

May Guru Arjan Dev Ji bless us; may we feel this ecstasy everywhere; may we realize we are apart of that eternal ocean.
