Wahegru ji ka khalsa! Waheguru ji ki fateh!
Today’s hukam is from Guru Arjan Dev ji in Raag Ramkali

This hukam is very reminiscent of the  28th  pauree of Japuji Sahib of Guru Nanaak where Guru Nanaak says, Munda santokh saram pat jholee Dhi-aan kee karahi bibhoot (Make contentment your ear-rings, humility your begging bowl and meditation the body ash). And he talks to the yogis. And he upbraids them for being ritualistic because the true state of yoga is the state of union with God and has nothing to do with outward trappings of this sect of yogis.

And in this hukam Sri Guru Arjan Dev  addresses the yogis as one, and he tells them that the body lasts for a a very short time. And he uses a beautiful analogy. He says that the muscles of the body are like stitching, like threads, which waste away as the body falls apart. And he calls the body a pillar of water because the body is over 70 percent water. And he says,"Yogi why do you feel proud of your status as a yogi?"

And he tells the yogis to be honest and to meditate. And he says that he uses the same kinds of analogies that Guru Nanaak uses in Japuji, that the earings that the yogis wear, the large earings — this is the  Gorakh sect of yogis — he says that those are the earings of yours and of mine –  of duality. He upbraids the yogis for begging instead of having responsibility to live in the world in a responsiblle way. He says you should be ashamed of begging, because you should be supplying others and not begging from others

This is a Hukam of gratitude and in this hukam Guru ji says, that when he came in through the protection of the "satsangat " all the errors of the past and all of the "karma" of the past was erased and that his ego fell away. And that any worry or anxiety, ceased to exist and he reached that deep space of meditation in the company of the satsangat. And he says that with meditation, ego disappears and it doesn’t matter who the person is, he may be a unlearned, or he may be a poor, he may not even be conscious of his own actions but that you come into the satsangat by grace and that it is the grace of God that brings that blessings. And he seals the Hukam by saying that meeting the Guru the cycle of birth and death is ended.
