Guru Arjan Dev Ji is talking to us in the Jaitsree Raag. Raag - which has an intense feeling and longing for Waheguru ji, Raag in which the mortal’s mind longs to be joined with the eternal Waheguru. Guru Ji is talking to us through a Slok and a Pauri.

anik leelaa raaj ras roopa(n) shhathr chamar thakhath aasana(n) , In the Slok, Guru Arjan Dev Ji says anik - various; leelaa - pleasures; raaj - worldly power, political power; ras - joy; roopaN means beauty; chha tar is the canopy that used to be over the kings in the medieval times in India; chamar takhat - chamar means a fan and takht - throne and aasnaN means to sit on. The mortal enjoys so many pleasures, the political powers he wants calling fans, canopies, all types of joy.

And then Guru Arjan Dev Ji says, racha(n)th moorr agiaan a(n)dhheh naanak supan manorathh maaeiaa, the moorh - the ignorant; agi-aan - foolish; anDhah - blind, mortal - rachant - is engrossed in all of these things, in all of these finite things. The human being is engrossed in all these things, in all this falseness of the world. naanak - Nanak says; supan manorath maa-i-aa - manorath means desire; maa-i-aa means the illusion around us, this falsehood; supan means dream. O Nanak, Guru Arjan Dev ji says the desire for these things, for these worldly pleasures, these worldly powers, these worldly things is but a dream. The only eternity, the only eternally true thing on this world is Satnam, true name of Waheguru. Everything else is finite, is going to die, is going to end.

supanai habh ra(n)g maaniaa mit(h)aa lagarraa mohu, supnai means in this dream; In this dream of the world that we live in, in this matrix that we are living in, habh rang maani-aa - habh means all; rang means pleasures and maani-aa means enjoy. The mortal enjoys all types of pleasures. mithaa lagrhaa moh - And the mortal thinks that this moh - this attachment to this falsehood is mithaa - is sweet.

naanak naam vihooneeaa su(n)dhar maaeiaa dhhrohu, Nanak says naam vihoonee-aa - without the name of Waheguru, sundar maa-i-aa Dharoh - without Waheguru’s name this beautiful world around us, this beautiful illusion is Dharoh - is fake, is false. If we see a beautiful sunset we should see God’s light shining through. If we see beauty in a flower, that’s the beauty of Waheguru. The flower is finite but the infinite Waheguru shining through that flower is eternal. In this whole illusion, we should see God.

pourree, then Guru ji says Pauree.

supanae saethee chith moorakh laaeiaa, only the moorakh - only the foolish person attaches his consciousness, his chit, to this supna - dream around him. It’s only the fool who believes that the dream is true.

bisarae raaj ras bhog jaagath bhakhalaaeiaa, when he wakes up, when he becomes Jaagat, when death comes and wakes him from this dream, bisray - he forgets and he looses raaj - all this political power, the political games he plays, the games he plays with his friends trying to dupe them . ras - all the enjoyments and pleasures; bhog - all the enjoyments; he looses them, he forgets them.

aarajaa gee vihaae dhha(n)dhhai dhhaaeiaa, Then he realizes that his aarjaa - his life is ga-ee vihaa-ay - is passing away uselessly. Why? Because DhanDhai Dhaa-i-aa. he is chasing after worldly affairs, he is chasing after worldly things. He is following this illusion.

pooran bheae n kaam mohiaa maaeiaa, the kaam - the one thing he has come in this world to do, has not done that. He hasn’t perfected that, he has not made that pooran. One thing that he has come on this earth to do - Bhayee parapat maanukh deh hooriya Gobind milan ki eh teri bariyaa He came on this earth to meet Waheguru, to meet with God and he hasn’t done that. Why? Because mohi-aa maa-i-aa. - he is enticed, because he is attached to Maya, to this falsehood.

And then Guru Ji says, kiaa vaechaaraa ja(n)th jaa aap bhulaaeiaa, what can the poor creature do - jant do when Waheguru himself has jaa aap bhulaa-i-aa.- deluded him from the path. Only Waheguru can do Kirpa and bring that person back on the path and bring that person back into the fold.

Guru Ji is saying to us to wake up from this dream because if we don’t wake up now death will certainly wake you up. And when death wakes you up you are not going to like it. You are going to realize in a second all that falsehood, all those people, all those things that you thought were going to be eternal, actually aren’t. And you are going to realize that one eternal thing is the name of Waheguru. The one thing you came on this earth to collect you have not collected it, you haven’t meditated upon Him, and we are all going to be sorry. But instead of waiting for that day why not repeat the name now? Why not connect to Him now when we have the chance. That’s what Guru Arjan Dev Ji is saying.

Waheguru ji ka Khalsa! Waheguru ji ki Fateh!

Katha by Bhai Guruka Singh

Today’s Hukam is from Guru Arjan Dev Ji.

He says in this hukam, that everything we see in this life is like a passing dream and that all of the play of the kings and all of the possessions of the rich people then people are preoccupied in getting with these things and having these things and people who do have these things . And he says that all of this fantasy and preoccupation of having these things is just a dream. And he says that in this dream, man enjoys all of these pleasures and possessions and they seem sweet to him but that it’s all fake; none of it has any value.

But people become attached to the dream, to the illusion, but when we wake from this dream through the power of Naam then all of these things are forgotten. People spend their whole lives chasing after things instead of remaining still and letting things come to them. And then when its time to leave the earth, the work that you have come to do, that your soul was supposed to deliver to this earth before you left this lifetime, that the work is not completed and will leave without doing what we came here to do because you were so preoccupied with possessions and riches and all of these things on the physical planet. And then he says that people have no power to overcome the dream or to wake from the dream, because even the fact that the people are dreaming and caught up in the play of Maya is God’s Will.
