Guru Arjan Dev ji Maharaj speaks to us today in the Bilaaval Raag, the Raag of happiness, the Raag of peace, the Raag of joy.

Guru Arjan Dev ji says agam roop abinaasee karathaa O Karta, O Creator, You are abinaasee, You are never perishable, there is no end to You, Your roop, Your form is agam, is inaccessible, is beautiful; pathith pavith, You are the pavith, the purifier of the pathiths, of the sinners, O WaheGuru; eik nimakh japaaeeai, may I japaaeeai, may I meditate upon You, even for ik, ik means one, nimakh means an instant, even for one instant, even for one second, even for one mille-second, may I be blessed with meditating upon you O WaheGuru.

acharaj suniou paraapath bhaettulae sa(n)th charan charan man laaeeai, O acharaj, O wondrous WaheGuru, I have suniou, I have heard that You are paraapath , You are found by bhaettulae , by meeting who, the saints, the sant, I have heard that you are found by meeting with the saints who are praising You; sa(n)th charan charan man laaeeai, and I laaeeai, I attach my mind, I focus my mind upon the charan, upon the Lotus feet of those saints, who meditate upon you.

Then Guru Arjan Dev ji says kith bidhheeai kith sa(n)jam paaeeai. In these there are whole lines of the shabad, this is the crux of the shabad, this is the middle of the flower of the shabad and in this Guru Arjan Dev ji says kith bidhheeai, bidhheeai means way, path, in which way, by which method kith sa(n)jam paaeeai, by which sa(n)jam, by which discipline paaeeai can I find WaheGuru, can I find Prabhu, can I find God.

Then Guru Arjan Dev ji says kahu surajan kith jugathee dhhiaaeeai, kahu tell me O surajan, O wise friend, surajan means wise friend, kith means by which, jugathee by which means, by which path, by which method, dhhiaaeeai means to meditate; O my blessed friend by which method must I meditate upon WaheGuru for me to find Him; rehaao, Guruji says pause and think about this. Guruji has already said the method in the beginning, by meeting with the saints.

Then Guru Sahib ji warns us jo maanukh maanukh kee saevaa, the maanukh, the human being who merely serves another human being but doesn’t serve God, ouhu this kee lee lee fun jaaeeai, that person who does not serve God, but serves merely another human being, is a mere support for the other human being.

And Guru Arjan Dev ji says in the last line of this Hukamnama, Naanak saran saran sukh saagar, Nanak has taken the protection, the sanctuary, the saran of who, of human being, no of sukh saagar, of the ocean of peace; mohi ttaek thaero eik naaeeai, mohi means mine, ttaek means support, thaero means yours, eik means One, naaeeai means Name; Your One Name is my support WaheGuru, that is what Guru Arjan Dev ji is saying.

Now you may say on the one hand Guru Sahib ji is telling us to follow the feet of the Saints, on the other hand Guru ji is telling us not to serve human beings, what Guru ji is saying is do not attach yourself to the body of that saint, do not attach yourself to the material illusion, attach yourself to the light within that person, the light within. Because, serving a body is one thing, but surrendering yourself to that light can redeem the past sins of many lifetimes.
