Bv swgr boihQ hir crx ]
bhav saagar bohith har charan.
The Lord’s Feet are the boat to cross over the terrifying world-ocean.

ismrq nwmu nwhI iPir mrx ]
simrat naam naahee fir maran.
Meditating in remembrance on the Naam, the Name of the Lord, he does not die again.

hir gux rmq nwhI jm pMQ ]
har gun ramat naahee jam panth.
Chanting the Glorious Praises of the Lord, he does not have to walk on the Path of Death.

mahaa beechaar panch dootah manth. ||1||
Contemplating the Supreme Lord, the five demons are conquered. ||1||

The yogis, celibates, vaishnavs and followers of the ramdas path

mit naahee barahm abinaas. ||2||
cannot find the limits of the Eternal Lord God. ||2||

karan palaah karahi siv dayv.
Shiva and the gods lament and moan,

iqlu nhI bUJih AlK AByv ]
til nahee boojheh alakh abhayv.
but they do not understand even a tiny bit of the unseen and unknown Lord.

pRym Bgiq ijsu Awpy dyie ]
paraym bhagat jis aapay day-ay.
One whom the Lord Himself blesses with loving devotional worship,

jag meh virlay kay-ee kay-ay. ||3||
is very rare in this world. ||3||

mohi nirgun gun kichhahoo naahi.
I am worthless, with absolutely no virtue at all;

sarab niDhaan tayree daristee maahi.
all treasures are in Your Glance of Grace.

naanak deen jaachai tayree sayv.
Nanak, the meek, desires only to serve You.

Please be merciful, and grant him this blessing, O Divine Guru. ||4||15||17||

Satguru Arjun Devji Maharaj, the embodiment of sacrifice within the house of Guru Nanak speaks to us today in the raag Gond. The Gond raag is a raag of victory, of elation, of blessing, of achievement. In this feeling of achievement, the feeling of blessing Guru Arjun Devji says, “Bhav saagar bohithh har charan; this saagar, this ocean of bhav; of fear around us of the world us”, Is there a way of crossing over? Yes there is! There is a boat; there is a bohithh. What is the boat? Har charan; the lotus feet of Waheguru. So meditate upon Waheguru, He is the boat with which to cross across this ocean. Guruji then says, “Simarath naam naahee fir maran.” Those people who meditate upon the Naam; the name of Akal Purakh naahee fir maran; not again do they die. They do not come into life and death.

“Har gun ramath naahee jam pa(n)thh.” Those people who ramath; who engross themselves with the gun; in singing the praises of that Hari; of that nourishor, of that Waheguru naahee jam pa(n)thh; they do not have to walk on the path of death because they have become immortal like their beloved. “Mahaa beechaar panch dootah manth.” Within themselves they beechaar; the concentrate, the contemplate upon the one who is Mahaa; who is the greatest of all. What happens by contemplating on the one? “Panch dootah manth” Manth means to destroy, they destroy the five thieves, the five demons of Kaam; lust, Krodh; anger, Lobh; greed, Moh; attachment, Anhkar; the ego. Guruji says, “Ta-o sarnaa-ee pooran naath.” Oh pooran; oh perfect naath; master, Oh my perfect master I have come into ta-o sarnaa; your sanctuary, your protection.” “Jant apnay ka-o deejeh haath.” Give this Jant; this creature, this lowly creature of your’s; apnay ka-o deejeh haath.” Give this lowly creature of your’s your hand to hold on to. Let me hold on to this hold hand so I can cross across the ocean of fear.

Rahaa-o. Guruji says, “Pause and think about this.” How are we grasping on to the hand of God? Grasping on to the hand of God is going to the sadhsangat, is doing sewa, is doing simran, is helping the world. That is how one can grasp onto God’s hand. Guruji says, “Simrit saastar bayd puraan; the simrat, the simratees, the saastar, the shaastaras, the Vedas, the purans, all these religious texts paarbarahm kaa karahi vakhi-aan; they describe, they talk about that supreme Waheguru who is beyond all limits.” “Jogee jatee baisno raamdaas.” When Guru is talking about Raamdas here He is not talking about Guru Raamdasji, He is talking about another saint in India who is also called Raamdas. Guruji says, “The Jogee; the Yogis, jatee; the celibates, baisno; the worshippers of Vishnu and the worshipers of Swami Raamdas, all of them mit naahee barahm abinaas; they have not found the limit of that never ending Waheguru.” Abinaas means never ending; He is never ending, there is no limit to the infinite. How can the limitless be limited. How can the indescribable be described?

“Karan palaah karahi siv dayv.” Karan palaah means they try again and again. Who are “they”? The siv dayv, the devtas, the gots, Shiva and Gods and angels and heavenly beings they try again and again but “til nahee boojheh alakh abhayv.” They do not even understand even a til; one spew of hay, they cannot even understand that much about Waheguru, they do not boojheh; they do not understand that much about alakh abhayv. Waheguru is alakh; meaning He cannot be seen, He is abhayv; He cannot be known by the mind. But then Guruji says, “Paraym bhagat jis aapay day-ay.” Upon those people who Waheguru aapay; Waheguru Himself day-ay; confers His bhagati; His prem, His loving devotion those are “jag meh virlay kay-ee kay-ay.” Those people are very rare; virlay in this jag; in this world.

In the last part of the shabad, Guruji says, “Mohi nirgun gun kichhahoo naahi.” Mohi nirgun; I am worthless, I have no qualitites, gun kichhahoo naahi; Gun means qualities, kichhahoo means none. I have none at all what so ever. “Sarab niDhaan tayree daristee maahi.” Oh Waheguru ji, Sarab means all, niDhaan means treasures, all treasures are in tayree daristee maahi; in your glance of grace. Then Guruji says, “Naanak deen jaachai tayree sayv.” Nanak deen; Nanak the lowly one, Nanak the weak one jaachai; desires, tayree sayv; only for your service. I only beg to serve you Waheguru, I beg for nothing else. “Kar kirpaa deejai gurdayv.” Oh my Gurudev, Oh my blessed Guru, on my angelic Guru, oh my heavenly Guru kar kirpaa; be merciful upon me, bless me with your sewa, bless me with the ability and the love to serve humanity, bless me with your Name.

Guruji is saying to us, “Take the hand of Waheguru. Go into the sangat and embrace Him.”
