Satgur Arjan Dev ji speaks to us in the Sorath Raag, in the Ghar 2, in the second house, and Guru ji says,
maath garabh mehi aapan simaran dhae theh thum raakhanehaarae. When we are in the maath garabh, in the mother’s womb, maath means mother, garabh means womb, what did Waheguru ji do, aapan simaran dhae, Akal Purakh Waheguru ji blessed us with His aapan simaran, with His meditation, with His remembrance. What else did Waheguru ji do? dhae theh thum raakhanehaarae, Waheguru ji raakhanehaarae looked after us dhae.
paavak saagar athhaah lehar mehi thaarahu thaaranehaarae, Maharaj ji Guru Arjan Dev ji is saying now we are out of the womb, into the world, O Waheguru ji, I see that around me there is a paavak saagar athhaah lehar mehi, there is a saagar, there is an ocean, but outside is a fire, paavak, there are so many waves in this ocean and we are drowning. What does Guru ji mean? Guru ji is talking about the fire of ego, the fire of hatred, the fire of greed, the fire of attachment, and Guru ji says to Waheguru ji, thaarahu thaaranehaarae, O Waheguru please save us, You are the One who saved countless people.
maadhha thoo t(h)aakur sir moraa, O Waheguru, thoo t(h)aakur, You are the Lord, sir moraa means above my head or over my head. What does this mean? O Waheguru ji, You are the One who controls me, You are the One above my head.
eehaa oohaa thuhaaro dhhoraa, eehaa, in this world, oohaa, in the next world, thuhaaro dhhoraa, You are my only dhhoraa, You are my only support, O Waheguru, rehaao , pause and think.
keethae ko maerai sa(n)maanai karanehaar thrin jaanai, the mortal, the human being, Guru ji is literally saying is sees His creation as a mountain of gold, karanehaar thrin jaanai, Waheguru creates everything, he knows Him to be like a thrin, like a blade of straw, of one piece of straw. What does this really mean? This means we value more the worldly material things around us than we do Waheguru. We value our car more, we value house more, we value our jewelry more, and fashionable clothes, we value more than Waheguru. We spend more time on them, than we do Waheguru.
thoo dhaathaa maagan ko sagalee dhaan dhaehi prabh bhaanai. What do we know Guru Arjan Dev ji says. Guru ji says we have to realize thoo dhaathaa, Waheguru ji is the Giver, maangan ko sagalee, the whole world, sagalee, the whole universe is maangan, is just begging from Waheguru, there is no other way; dhaan dhaehi prabh bhaanai, Waheguru ji gives us dhaan, gives us gifts according to His bhaanai, according to His Will, according to His command.
khin mehi avar khinai mehi avaraa acharaj chalath thumaara, Guru ji is saying khin mehi avar, in one instance You are one thing, khinai mehi avaraa, talking to Waheguru, in another instance, You are another thing, You are pervading through all, acharaj chalath thumaara, Your acharaj, Your ways are acharaj, are wondrous, are beautiful, cannot be known by anyone.
roorro goorro gehir ga(n)bheero oocha agam apaarae, Waheguru ji, You are roorro, You are beautiful, goorro, You are profound, mysterious, gehir, You are deep, ga(n)bheero, no one can fathom you, no one can measure you, oocha, You are high, higher than high, agam, You cannot be accessed by anyone, apaarae, You are infinite, never-ending.
saadhhasa(n)g jo thumehi milaaeiou tho sunee thumaaree baanee, Waheguru ji, when thumehi milaaeiou, when You brought me into the the Sadh Sangat, into the company of the holy, tho, then what did I do, then I got the chance to sunee, to listen to Your bani, to Your Word, to Your shabad, to Your Mantra.
anadh bhaeiaa paekhath hee naanak prathaap purakh nirabaanee, Nanak has gone into anandh, into Divine Ecstasy, by holding the prathaap purakh nirabaanee, by beholding your Pratap, Your Glory, O Waheguru, O purakh nirabaanee, O Lord, who blesses us with liberation, I have gone into ecstasy singing Your praises, beholding your praises in this world.
Guru Arjan Dev ji says to us today it is all well and good living in the world, but always remember who gave you these gifts, who gave you all this stuff. In Sukhmani Sahib, there is a beautiful astapadi, and one of the lines is jaie praasad chatti amrit khaien, this thaakur ko rakh man mahie, with whose Grace, you eat so many delicious foods, keep that Lord in your mind, and the ashtapadi goes through, showing us how many graces, how many blessings Waheguru has showered upon us. This is what Guru ji is saying today, live in the creation, but do not forget the Creator.
maadhha thoo t(h)aakur sir moraa || eehaa oohaa thuhaaro dhhoraa || rehaao ||
Waheguru ji ka Khalsa! Waheguru ji ki Fateh!
