Guru Arjan Devji is talking to us today in the Raag Jaithsree, a raag in which there is immense feeling of closeness to the Guru and in this Raag Guru ji says
ik oa(n)kaar sathigur prasaadh, there is one eternal, creative, nourishing and destructive being who is found through the sathigur, through the True Guru’s prasaadh, grace.
ab mai sukh paaeiou gur aagiy, ab means now, mai means I, now I have found paaeiou, sukh, eternal peace. Where did I find this eternal peace? gur aagiy, aagiy means front of, gur means Guru, by going in front of the Guru, I found eternal peace. How did I go in front of the Guru?
thajee siaanap chi(n)th visaaree aha(n) shhoddiou hai thiaagiy ||1|| rehaao || thajee, means abandon, siaanap, means cleverness, I gave up my cleverness; chi(n)th visaaree, visaaree means to forget, chi(n)th means worries, I forgot all my worries; aha(n) means egotism, shhoddiou means give up, I gave up my egotism, thiaagiy, I renounced it completely; rehaao, Guru ji says pause and think about this. The way to go in front of the Guru in order to find peace, is to give up cleverness. You can trick every single person on this earth. You cannot trick God or the Guru.
jo dhaekho tho sagal mohi moheeao tho saran pariou gur bhaag, jo, when I, dhaekho, looked, when I looked, tho, then I, sagal means everyone, mohi moheeao, everyone is entangled in emotional attachment, tho, then what did I do, saran means protection, pariou means to take, to hurry to, gur means Guru, bhaag means running. I ran into the Guru’s protection, Guru’s sanctuary.
kar kirapaa ttehal har laaeiou tho jam shhoddee moree laag, kar kirapaa, the Guru blessed me with His grace, ttehal means service, har means God, the Guru put me into His service, into God’s service, which is serving humanity, laaeiou, to attach to engagement, the Guru attached me into the service of humanity, tho jam shhoddee moree laag, then what happened, the jam, the messengers of death, they gave up pursuing me, gave up chasing me, because the person who does sewa becomes immortal, he goes beyond the messengers of death.
thariou saagar paavak ko jo sa(n)th bhaettae vadd bhaag, thariou saagar, I have swam across the sagar, the ocean, paavak ko, fire, this world which is an ocean of fire, I swam across it, how, jo means when, sa(n)th means saints, bhaettae means to meet, vadd bhaagmeans by great fortune, by great fortune I met the saints, they helped me swim across this ocean of fire.
jan naanak sarab sukh paaeae moro har charanee chith laag, jan naanak, Servant Nanak, has found paaeae, sarab sukh, means all peace, total peace, eternal peace, how, moro when my har means Waheguru, charanee means to the Lord’s feet of, chith means consciousness, laag means attached to. When my consciousness was attached to the Lord’s feet, I found complete peace. Guru ji is saying to us, you want to find complete peace, firstly give up your cleverness, give up your tricks, forget your worries and be ready to give up your ego.
ab mai sukh paaeiou gur aagiy || thajee siaanap chi(n)th visaaree aha(n) shhoddiou hai thiaagiy ||1|| rehaao ||
Waheguru ji ka Khalsa! Waheguru ji ki Fateh!
