Guru Amar Das Ji Maharaj speaks to us in the Raag of happiness, Bilawal Raag
apnaa aap na pachhaan-ee har parabh jaataa door
Guru Ji says that the mortal does not pachaanee recognize apnaa aap; himself, what he or she who truly is- the soul. And because of this har prabh jaata door The mortal believes -jaata that Waheguru is door - is far away. He does not realize that God is within him, and within everything around him.
gur kee sayvaa visree ki-o man rahai hajoor
Guru ji says that he has visree, forgotten the seva of the Guru, service of the Guru. kio man rahai hazoor; kio means how, how can his mind focus on the presence of the hazoor - Waheguru for anything. What Guru Ji is saying here is that seva, creates an awareness, creates a recognition, creates enlightenment within the being of Waheguru ji’s presence all around. When you start to immerse yourself in seva you begin to recognize the Lord is permeating through all around you. manmukh janam gavaa-i-aa , The person who doesn’t realize this follows their mind. The person who follows his mind, what happens, janam gavaaiaa; they waste this life. How? jhoothai laalach koor ; Through their greed which is false and through koor- lies.
naanak bakhas milaa-i-an sachai sabad hadoor
O Nanak if Waheguru himself bakhas, forgives, and milaaian blends and absorbs the mortals and absorbs the souls of the mortals into himself and unites himself. sachai sabad hadoor, that through the true shabad of Guru’s word we realize that God is permeating through everywhere, hadoor - always close to us.
mehlaa 3: har parabh sachaa sohilaa gurmukh naam govind
The sacha sohilaa, the true song of praise of Hari, Prabhu, Waheguru is the truest thing on this earth because it takes us into the Truth. Praising Waheguru takes us into the truth. gurmukh naam govind, the gurmukh repeats the name of the govind - seed of the earth or universe - Waheguru.
an-din naam salaahnaa har japi-aa man aanand
andin means day and night, the gurmukh praises and meditates upon the naam - naam salahnaa focuses on the Naam. har japiaa aanand, by meditating upon Hari, Waheguru the gurmukh finds anand - complete bliss in his or her mind.
vadbhaagee har paa-i-aa pooran parmaanand
By great fortunes vadhbhaagee, the gurmukh is blessed with finding -paaiaa Hari, finding God. And then what happens? The gurmukh then becomes pooran perfect because he or she merges into the perfect one. Then what happens is parmanand - you have supreme bliss.
jan naanak naam salaahi-aa bahurh na man tan bhang
jan Nanak When servant Nanak praises - salaahiaa the Naam, then what happens is that never again - bahurh will his mind, his body be wasted.
pa-orhee|| ko-ee nindak hovai satguroo kaa fir saran gur aavai
Guru Amar das ji says even if someone nindak hovai - slanders the Satguru, the true Guru but then, fir aavai comes and seeks the saran protection of the Guru. What happens then? Guru Amar Das Ji says pichhlay gunah satgur bakhas la-ay satsangat naal ralaavai The satgur, true Guru forgives the past sins of that person, and satsangat naal ralavai the Guru unites that person into the congregation of truth. Guru Ji gives an analogy here.
ji-o meehi vuthai galee-aa naali-aa tobhi-aa kaa jal jaa-ay pavai vich sursaree sursaree milat pavitar paavan ho-ay jaavai
jio meehi vuthai, means when the rain falls, galee-aa naali-aa tobhi-aa means the rivers, streams and ponds, all the little bits of water, they all join together and flow to where? jal jaa-ay pavai vich sursaree into the Ganges. Then what to this water when it meets with Ganges, milat pavitar paavan ho-ay jaavai - meeting with Ganges this water from ponds, rivers and puddles which was being stepped on, which was not pure at all becomes pavittarnindaks the slanderers with all the past sins falls on the feet of the Guru, the Guru washes away and purifies the past sins.
ayh vadi-aa-ee satgur nirvair vich jit mili-ai tisnaa bhukh utrai har saaNt tarh aavai
This is the greatness- vadiaaee of the Satguru, the true Guru, who is nirvair - who has no enemies. By meeting the Guru, jit mili-ai or by uniting with the Guru, tisnaa bhukh utrai the hunger inside of greed is removed - utrai, utrai har saaNt tarh aavai, tarh means in an instant; when meeting the Guru you find complete peace within you.
naanak ih achraj daykhhu mayray har sachay saah kaa je satguroo no mannai so sabhnaaN bhaavai.
O Nanak daykhu achraj, see this marvelous wonder of mere saah kaa - my true king, Hari, my Waheguru. That person who believes in and follows the Satguru with his or her mind body and soul, that person is loved by all. Sudh This is the end of the Bilaval Vaar and ends with Sudh, which literally means pure and correct. So what Guru Ji says here in this conclusion of the Bilaval Vaar, Guru ji is saying recognize who you are, put yourself into the Seva of the Guru, and Guru Ji is saying even if you have gone so far as to slander the Guru, you can still fall back into the Guru’s Grace just by falling into the protection of the Guru, just by proclaiming to the Guru that sagal duwaar ko chhad kai gaye tuharo duwaar, bahain gaye ki laaj us gobind daas tuhaar. As Guru Gobind Singh Ji says in the Dasam Granth. All we have to do is fall back into His protection. The Guru is nirvair, has no enemies, and is waiting for us with open arms.
