Guru Sahibji talks to us in the Jaitsaree raag. In this raag of complete longing for that ultimate state of union with that Akal Purakh, Guruji says, “Ik-oNkaar; there is one eternal, creative, destructive, nourishing being” who is found through the “satgur; the true Guru’s parsaad; grace.”

Guruji says in the Salok, in the first part of the Shabad, “Oochaa agam apaar parabh kathan na jaa-ay akath.” Oh Waheguru you are oochaa; higher than high; you are agam; you are unapproachable by any material, you are apaar; you are infinite above all things, Parabh; you are my Lord, kathan means to describe, na jaa-ay means cannot be. Waheguruji cannot be described because He is akath; He is indescribable. How can someone describe to you the indescribable. How can a person who is mute describe to you the taste of sugar. He has no means. So is Waheguru, He is indescribable, He is beyond this illusion and cannot be described. “Naanak parabh sarnaagatee.” Nanak has taken the sarnaagatee of that Waheguru, of that Lord, of that parabh. “Raakhan ka-o samrath.” Because He is samrath; He is all powerful and He can Raakhan; He can save us.

Chhant.

Guru Arjun Devji says, “Ji-o jaanhu ti-o raakh har parabh tayri-aa.” Ji-o means as, jaanhu means you know, you want. In anyway you want Oh Waheguru “Ti-o raakh”, raakh means to save, protect me, save me in that way. In any way you want Waheguru. Why? Because “Har parabh tayri-aa.” I have given up all of my own self, I have given up the sense of being, of ego and what has happened? Oh hari; Oh nourisher of the world I have become tayri-aa; I have become yours’.

Kaytay gan-o asaNkh avgan mayri-aa.” Kaytay means how many, gan-o means to count. How many can I count? Of what? Of asaNkh. What have I got? I have this uncountable Avgan; vices, mayri-aa; my bad qualities are asaNkh; they are uncountable. How can I gan-o; how can I count them? I am full of evil. “AsaNkh avgan khatay fayray nitparat sad bhoolee-ai.” Guru Sahib says, “AsaNkh; countless are the avgan and the khatay.” Khatay means crimes, avgan means sins. All the sins are crimes that are mayri-aa; that I do nitparat; every day and night, day by day, again and again sad bhoolee-ai. Sad means continually, for ever and ever bhoolee-ai; I make mistakes. “Moh magan bikraal maa-i-aa ta-o parsaadee ghoolee-ai.” Oh Waheguruji I am magan; I am intoxicated in moh; in attachment, to what? To this maya, to this illusion. But this illusion is bikraal; it’s a traitor because we follow this illusion but it leads us nowhere. The mirage does not lead to anywhere, it’s a traitor. It looks as if it leads somewhere, it looks as if it leads to salvation, it looks as if it leads to happiness. All these things around us are materialistic. We are looking for happiness in this material things. The new car, the new house they all look as if they are going to make us happy but its just an illusion. Guru Sahib ji says, “Ta-o parsaadee ghoolee-ai.” Only through your parsaadee; only through your grace Oh Waheguru can I be ghoolee-ai; can I be saved.

Look karat bikaar bikh-rhay parabh nayr hoo tay nayri-aa.” Guruji says, “Look karat.” Secretly I do bikaar; commit sins, because I am bikh-rhay; I am stuck in this illusion. What I don’t realize is that my parabh; my Waheguru is nayr hoo tay nayri-aa. Waheguru ji closer than close. Waheguruji is the most closest thing. Bhagat Ravidas says, “Kaho Ravidas haath pay nayri-aa; he is closer to you than your own hands and feet.” Guruji is saying, “Realise Waheguru is with you at all times, watching everything you do.”

Then Guruji says, “Binvant naanak da-i-aa Dhaarahu kaadh bhavjal fayri-aa.” Guru Arjun Devji says, “Nanak does this ardaas, Nanak has this benti; Binvant naanak, Nanak prays for this: Dhaarahu, Oh Waheguruji bless me with your Daya; with your Dharho. Kaadh bhavjal fayri-aa; take me out of the fayri-aa of bhavjal, take me out of the continuous cycle of bhavjal, take me out of the terrifying world ocean.” That is what Guru Sahib is saying to us today. Oh Waheguruji bless me, take me out of this bhavjal, this ocean of fear.

Salok

In the next Salok Guru Arjun Devji says, “Nirat na pavai asaNkh gun oochaa parabh kaa naa-o.” Waheguruji’s Gun, Waheguruji’s virtues are asaNkh are countless. Waheguruji’s virtues cannot be counted. Guruji says, “Nirat na pavai” Nirat means to measure them up; na pavai means to not be able to. The human being; how can the drop comprehend the ocean? How can the ray of sunlight comprehend the sun? Guruji says, “Human beings cannot count his virtues.” “Oochaa parabh kaa naa-o.” Waheguruji’s naa-o, Waheguru’s name is oochaa; is higher than high. “Naanak kee banantee-aa.” Nanak has one prayer; “Milai nithaavay thaa-o.” Nithaavay means the homeless one. May the homeless one be blessed with a home. What does this mean? We are homeless! We have no place of rest. We are sitting here and our mind is wondering across the world. Guruji says, “Mere man pardesi ve pyaree aoo khare.” Oh my mind you are going into foreign countries, come back home; the home of your soul, the home of your self; your spiritual home. That is what Guru Sahibji is asking for now.

Chhant.

Doosar naahee thaa-o kaa peh jaa-ee-ai.” Doosar means another, thaa-o means place, naahee means there is no other. “There is no other place to go”, Guruji says, “Kaa peh jaa-ee-ai.” Where should I go? “Aath pahar kar jorh.” Aath pahar; twenty four hours a day, kar means hands, jorh means press together. I put my hands together; I fold my hands and “So parabh Dhi-aa-ee-ai.” Dhi-aa-ee-ai means to meditate; I meditate upon parabh; upon Waheguru. “Dhi-aa-ay so parabh sadaa apunaa.” Guruji says, “Meditate upon your Waheguru and He will be adaa apunaa; your forever. When he becomes yours then maneh chindi-aa paa-ee-ai; all your chindi-aa; all your desires of the mind; your maneh, you will paa-ee-ai; you will find them, you will receive them.”

Taj maan moh vikaar doojaa ayk si-o liv laa-ee-ai.” Taj means to give up; maan means pride. Then what you need to give up? Give up your moh, give up your attachment, then what? Give up your vikaars; give up your sins. Then what do you give up? Give up doojaa; the idea of there is more than One. There is only One. Give up your love of this illusion and then what should you do? “Ayk si-o liv laa-ee-ai.” Attach; laa-ee-ai, your liv; your conciousness to the ayk; to the One. Because there is only Ik Oang Kaar. Then what do you do? “Arap man tan parabhoo aagai aap sagal mitaa-ee-ai.” Arap means to sacrifice, sacrifice your man; your mind, your tan; your body, but where? At parabhoo aagai; in front of God, to Waheguru, to prabho. “Aap sagal mitaa-ee-ai.” You need to mitaa-ee-ai; you need to eradicate, you need to destroy the whole idea of your self, you ego of your sagal aap. “Binvant naanak Dhaar kirpaa saach naam samaa-ee-ai.” Binvant naanak; Nanak does this prayer in front of God: Dhaar kirpaa; shower me with your mercy that I may be samaa-ee-ai; I may be absorbed into your saach naam; into your true name.

Salok.

In this last Salok on this Ang Guruji says, “Ray man taa ka-o Dhi-aa-ee-ai.” Ray man; Oh my mind, taa ka-o Dhi-aa-ee-ai; meditate upon that being whom “Sabh biDh jaa kai haath.” Who has sabh biDh; who has everything in this haath; in this hands. Meditate upon Waheguru who controls everything. “rRaam naam Dhan sanchee-ai.” sanchee-ai; gather together the dhan; the wealth of Raam naam; of God’s name, then what will happen? “Naanak nibhai saath.” Nanak says, “This wealth will nibhai saath; will remain with you forever.”

Chhant.

Guruji says, “Saathee-arhaa parabh ayk doosar naahi ko-ay.” Saathee-arhaa means friend and companion, your only friend and companion is parabh ayk; the one Waheguru. All other companions fall away because “doosar naahi ko-ay.” There is no doosar; no other. “Thaan thanantar aap jal thal poor so-ay.” Waheguruji is in the thaan thanantar; He is in every space, aap means himself, jal thal means in the water and in the land, poor so-ay; He is perfect and pervading through everything. “Jal thal mahee-al poor rahi-aa.” Waheguru is permeating through the water; the jal, the thal, the land, the mahee-al; the sky, poor rahi-aa and He is perfect in all of them. “Sarab daataa parabh Dhanee.” Sarab means all, daataa means giver. Waheguru is the giver to all and He is the Dhanee; the master of all. This is all his treasury; his dhan.

Gopaal gobind ant naahee bay-ant gun taa kay ki-aa ganee.” Waheguru is the one who paal means to look after, go means world. Gobind: bind means seed, go means of the world. Waheguru is the seed of the world and He looks after this world. Ant naahee; there is no end to Waheguru because He is bay-ant; He is without an end of gun; his virtues are bay-ant; there is no end to his virtues. “Taa kay ki-aa ganee.” How can I count, how can I count his virtues. “Bhaj saran su-aamee sukhah gaamee tis binaa an naahi ko-ay.” Bhaj means to hurry, hurry into the protection; into saran of the su-aamee; of the Lord who is sukhah gaamee; bringer of peace. “Tis binaa an naahi ko-ay.” Binaa means without, an means another, naahi ko-ay means there is no other. Without Waheguru there is no other at all. “Binvant naanak; Nanak prays again that da-i-aa Dhaarahu; bless me with your mercy tis paraapat naam ho-ay.” That person who is blessed with mercy, with grace tis; that person find the treasure of Naam; of Waheguruji’s name.

Salok.

Then Guru Sahibji says, “Chit je chitvi-aa so mai paa-i-aa. naanak naam Dhi-aa-ay sukh sabaa-i-aa.” Chit je chitvi-aa; what ever you wish for in your chit; in your mind, so mai paa-i-aa; you will receive that. Guruji says, “Mai paa-i-aa; I have received, I have been given that.” Nanak by Dhi-aa-ay; by meditating upon the naam; upon God’s name you will find sukh sabaa-i-aa; find complete peace.

Chhant.

Then Guruji says, “Ab man chhoot ga-i-aa.” Ab means now, man means my mind, chhoot ga-i-aa means to be free. Now my mind is free, it is liberated, Why? Because “SaaDhoo sang milay.” I have joined the saaDhoo sang; I have joined the company of those holy saints. They have freed my mind. “Gurmukh naam la-i-aa jotee jot ralay.” Becoming a Gurmukh and following the Guru, by naam la-i-aa; by chanting the Naam, what happened? “Jotee jot ralay.” My jotee my light has merged into the supremem jyot; the supreme light. “Har naam simrat mitay kilbikh.” By simrat; by meditating upon the Hari Naam, the name of that nourishing Lord. What happens? Mitay kilbikh; my sins have been destroyed. All of my sins have been taken away. “Bujhee tapat aghaani-aa.” The tapat; the fire within me, the fire of attachment, ego, hatred has Bujhee; has been put out and I am aghaani-aa; I am satisfied with the name of Waheguru.

Geh bhujaa leenay da-i-aa keenay.” Gen means to take, bhujaa means the arm, leenay means by. Waheguruji has taken me by the arm and da-i-aa keenay; has blessed me with His mercy. “Apnay kar maani-aa.” Maani-aa means to accept, Waheguruji has accepted me as His own. “Lai ank laa-ay har milaa-ay janam marnaa dukh jalay.” Lai means to take, Guruji is saying, “Waheguru has taken me ank laa-ay; taken me into His embrace. Har milaa: Waheguruji has merged me with Himself. The dukh; the pain of janam marnaa; of being born and dying has been jalay; has been burned away.” “Binvant naanak; Nanak prays for da-i-aa Dhaaree; your blessing of mercy and mayl leenay ik palay. If you bless me with your mercy Waheguruji and you unite me with yourself. Then how long does it take?”, Guruji says. “Ik palay; only one instant. In an instant He merges you with Himself.

What Guruji is saying in this hukamnama is that surrender everything to Waheguru and you will merge in. Then there will be no difference between you and your creator.
