Guru Nanak Devji Mahraj has blessed us today with this hukamnama in the Soohi raag. The soohi raag is a raag which colours the mind and soul in the colour of love. Guru Nanak Devji starts off and says, “ Mayraa man raataa gun ravai man bhaavai so-ee.” My mind is completely immersed in the praises of God. Those praises of God, by singing them, my mind has become peaceful. Because of this His praises are pleasing to my mind. Gur kee pa-orhee saach kee saachaa sukh ho-ee. Guruji says, “The ladder to the Guru is true. By climbing up that ladder to the Guru, towards Waheguru, you find true eternal peace that is never going to go.

Sukh sahj aavai saach bhaavai saach kee mat ki-o talai. When the truth starts pleasing you, when you start becoming one with the truth, then what happens? Peace, intuitive balance and poise come to you themselves. Guruji asks a question, “How can the wisdom of truth ever be erased? How can it ever be stopped? Truth can never be stopped.” Isnaan daan sugi-aan majan aap achhli-o ki-o chhalai. Guruji says, “Waheguru is undeceivable. How can He be deceived by you? You can only get to God through the truth. Doesn’t matter how much wisdom you have, how many spiritual bathings you have at the sites of pilgrimage, how much charity you do. If you are doing for the wrong intentions God knows, He won’t be deceived.” Parpanch moh bikaar thaakay koorh kapat na do-ee. Waheguru takes away your deception, your attachment, the sins that stick to you, falsehood, hatred and duality of loving the material world and the eternal world. You cannot have two masters, you can only have one. Guruji is saying, “All of these bad things are taken away if you follow the truth.”

Mayraa man raataa gun ravai man bhaavai so-ee. Then Guruji repeats the line at the beginning, “My mind is completely enraptured with His praises, I chant them again and again. My mind is pleased by hearing His praises.” Saahib so salaahee-ai jin kaaran kee-aa. Guruji says, “Praise that master who created this creation.” Mail laagee man maili-ai kinai amrit pee-aa. Guruji says, “In this world the filth of the past sins stick to the mind, only a few people, only very rarely (one or two people) have tasted the ambrosial nector of God’s name, that Amrit.” Math amrit pee-aa ih man dee-aa gur peh mol karaa-i-aa. Churn this amrit, the Amrit of God’s name, then drink it and then give this mind to the Guru. Then the Guru will put your life into some value. Without the Guru this life is going away with no value. In Siri Guru Granth Sahibji it says, “ Heerai Jaisa Janam Hai Kodee Badle Jaye.” Your life is like a diamond but you are selling it for less than pennies.

Aapnarhaa parabh sahj pachhaataa jaa man saachai laa-i-aa. When your mind is attached to the true Waheguru then by yourself, through intuitive balance you will find that God is sitting inside you. You will realize this when you attach yourself to the truth and break yourself from the falsehood. Tis naal gun gaavaa jay tis bhaavaa ki-o milai ho-ay paraa-i-aa. With Him I will sing His praises, Waheguru Ji’s praises, if it pleases Him. But how can I meet with Him if I remain a stranger to God. Guruji is saying, “God is the ultimate truth. If you are going to remain a stranger to Him and be colored in falsehood then how are you going to become one with Him? You can’t because you are going in the opposite direction. Saahib so salaahee-ai jin jagat upaa-i-aa. So praise that Lord who created this world. Aa-ay ga-i-aa kee na aa-i-o ki-o aavai jaataa. When Waheguru comes into your mind, into your body, into your soul, when He makes the house of your body into a permanent abed there will be no coming and going then. When you merge into Waheguru there is no coming and going.

Pareetam si-o man maani-aa har saytee raataa. When the mind falls back into love with the beloved Lord, with beloved Waheguru, then it is blended, it is merged back into Waheguru. Saahib rang raataa sach kee baataa jin bimb kaa kot usaari-aa. The one who is colored in the color of Waheguru, in the colour of the Lord, everything he says, every word he says is truth. Because he can’t speak falsehood because his master doesn’t allow him to do so. Because his Waheguru is the one who created this court, this body from a bimb, which means a mere bubble.

Panch bhoo naa-iko aap sirandaa jin sach kaa pind savaari-aa. Waheguru is the master of the five elements. He is the creator Himself. He decorated this body with the truth. Ham avgani-aaray too sun pi-aaray tuDh bhaavai sach so-ee. Oh Waheguru I am full of misdeeds, of sins. Oh beloved one, oh Waheguru listen to my plee, whatever pleases you is the truth. Whatever pleases God is the truth, whatever doesn’t please God is the falsehood. Aavan jaanaa naa thee-ai saachee mat ho-ee. When you are blessed with the true understanding, true intuitive wisdom there will be no coming and going back on to this earth. Anjan taisaa anjee-ai jaisaa pir bhaavai. Guru Nanak Devji says, “That type of ointment, that type of cream into your eyes, which is pleasing to Waheguru.” What is He saying? He is saying, “Look at everyone in the light which pleases God, don’t look at anyone with the light of hatred, with light of desire, with the light of ego, with the light of attachment, with the light of greed.

Samjhai soojhai jaanee-ai jay aap jaanaavai. If Waheguruji Himself causes you to know Him then you will understand, realize and know Him. Aap jaanaavai maarag paavai aapay manoo-aa layv-ay. When He himself wants you to know Him He puts you on the path. He Himself will look after your mind. Karam sukaram karaa-ay aapay keemat ka-un abhayva-ay. He Himself causes us to do good deeds and bad deeds. Who can know the value of the mysterious Waheguru. Tant mant pakhand na jaanaa raam ridai man maani-aa. Oh Waheguru, I don’t any of this tantar, mantra or all this pakhand that people do. All I know is that my mind is satisfied with raam, with Waheguru. Ajan naam tisai tay soojhai gur sabdee sach jaani-aa. The ointment, the surma, of Naam is only understood by those people who have found the truth through the Guru’s word.

Sajan hovan aapnay ki-o par ghar jaahee. When I have my own friends in my own house, why should I go to the home of the stranger. When my God is inside me then I don’t need to go anywhere else. Sajan raatay sach kay sangay man maahee. My friends are colored in the color of truth, in the color of the true Lord, of Satnam. He is always with them in their minds. Man maahi saajan karahi ralee-aa karam Dharam sabaa-i-aa. athsath tirath punn poojaa naam. In their minds my friends they enjoy pleasures, they celebrate. All good karma, all good dharma, all righteous comes to them. When you fall in love, when you have love for the true name, for Satnam, then inside you come the sixty eight places of pilgrimages, inside you is all charity, inside you is all truth, inside is everything that is of value.

Aap saajay thaap vaykhai tisai bhaanaa bhaa-i-aa. He Himself creates, He establishes us in our different places in the world, He then looks after us, behold us. This all happens how? By His will, by His command. Saajan raaNg rangeelrhay rang laal banaa-i-aa. My friends are colored in the beautiful color of God’s love, they are beautiful, they are happy, they are blessed. Waheguru has made their color the true color of His love. AnDhaa aagoo jay thee-ai ki-o paaDhar jaanai. Waheguruji says, “If the leader is blind then how will he know the way? If you have got a blind man leading you then you are going to fall into a well. How will he know the way? You are not going to know the path!” Guruji says. Aap musai mat hochhee-ai ki-o raahu pachhaanai. When he himself is impaired and cannot find the way and his understanding is not adequate to take you to Waheguru then how will he know the way?

Ki-o raahi jaavai mahal paavai anDh kee mat anDhlee. How can He follow the path, how can He reach the abode of Waheguru. The understanding of someone who is blind with ignorance is also going to be ignorance. Vin naam har kay kachh na soojhai anDh boodou DhanDhlee. Guruji says, “Without the Name of Waheguru no one can understand anything.” And Guruji says, “That person who cannot see with two eyes is not blind, that person who doesn’t understand the Name of Waheguru is blind. People who are blind to God’s Name they are drowning in worldly attachments.” Din raat chaanan chaa-o upjai sabad gur kaa man vasai. “If the Shabad of the Guru abides in your mind then day and night the divine light shines through you.” Kar jorh gur peh kar binantee raahu paaDhar gur dasai. “Put your hand together, press your palms together and go in front of the Waheguru and do an ardaas to the Guru and then the Guru will tell you the way.”

Man pardaysee jay thee-ai sabh days paraa-i-aa. “If your mind becomes a stranger to God then the whole is a stranger to you.” In another place in Siri Guru Granth Sahib ji it says, “ Sabh Ko meet ham apan keena ham sabna ke sajan.” I have made everyone my friend; I have made everyone my own. Only when you are a stranger to God, you will be a stranger to the world. Because that person will realizes God is His father and realize that everyone is His brother and sister. We are all daughters and sons of God. When that person realizes that then no one will be a stranger to him/her. Kis peh kholHa-o ganth-rhee dookhee bhar aa-i-aa. When you are a stranger to everyone then to whom can you open up your bundle of pain, because we are full of pain. Dookhee bhar aa-i-aa jagat sabaa-i-aa ka-un jaanai biDh mayree-aa. The whole world is full of pain. How can I tell anyone else the state of my inner soul.

Aavnay jaavnay kharay daraavanay tot na aavai fayree-aa. Coming and going are horrid, dreadful and scary. Coming on to this world and leaving is the scariest thing. When you are born and when you die are the scariest moments. Everything in between is nothing. When the soul leaves the body that is when the ultimate pain would be felt by those people who have not done simran. It seems like there is no end to this cycle of reincarnation. Naam vihoonay oonay jhoonay naa gur sabad sunaa-i-aa. Without the Name the person is completely sad and depressed. Because He doesn’t listen to the Guru’s word. if your mind is a foreigner to God, a stranger to God then the whole world is a stranger to God.

Man pardaysee jay thee-ai sabh days paraa-i-aa. The one who finds Guru’s house within His soul he merges into Waheguru who is pervading through everything. Sayvak sayvaa taaN karay sach sabad pateenaa. That sewadar only performs seva when God is pleased upon Him, when God is smiling. He is blessed with the shabad of truth, with the Guru’s word. Sabday pateejai ank bheejai so mahal mehlaa antray. Being colored in the word of the Guru, having your heart completely softened with devotion and passion the soul bride dwells within the house of the Lord deep within her own soul. Aap kartaa karay so-ee parabh aap ant nirantray. Guru Nanak devji says, “The creator Himself creates, God Himself in the end is the endless. If you meet Waheguru through Guru’s word then you are blessed. Inside you the unstruck melody of God’s vibration resounds through you, vibrates through you.

Gur sabad maylaa taaN suhaylaa baajant anhad beenaa. The one who finds the Guru’s house in his/her own soul is blessed with merging with Waheguru who pervades through all. Keetaa ki-aa salaahee-ai kar vaykhai so-ee. Why praise the creation? Praise instead the one who not only created it but also watches over it. What does that mean? Are you saying oh this car is so great? That is so great, ahh this house is so good, ahh this food is so great. Why not praise the person who created all of that? When you see a beautiful sunrise, see God through that sunrise or a sunset, or a river, all these natural wonders.

Taa kee keemat na pavai jay lochai ko-ee. If someone was looking to find the value of Waheguru then his value cannot be found, it cannot be estimated. Keemat so paavai aap jaanaavai aap abhul na bhul-ay. Only that person can get a taste of God’s bountyfull, boundless value who God Himself allows. Only that person can taste it and have a small realization of God’s value. God Himself is never mistaken and never makes any mistakes.

Jai jai kaar karahi tuDh bhaaveh gur kai sabad amula-ay. He alone has celebration who is pleasing to Waheguru. The one who pleases through the most beautiful shabad. Guruji says, “I am lowly, downtrodden but I offer this one prayer, Oh brothers may I never give up the truth, the true name of God which is Satnam.” Naanak jin kar daykhi-aa dayvai mat saa-ee. Nanak says, “That person who made and is watching over this and He Himself blesses us with the understand, with His love, with His devotion.”

In this shabad Guruji is saying to us, “Chant His praises, meditate upon His name, make Him your friend and no one will ever be a stranger to you. Mayraa man raataa gun ravai man bhaavai so-ee. Gur kee pa-orhee saach kee saachaa sukh ho-ee.
