Satguru Ji Maharaj speaks to us in the Vadhans raag. Maharaj ji says in these first lines, “ Manhath kinai na paa-i-o sabh thakay karam kamaa-ay.” Manhath literally means through the stubbornness of the mind. Guruji says, “By being stubborn minded, by following manmat, ways of your mind, no one has found Waheguru through their mind. Dhan Man Dhan Sabh sounp Gur ko - Only those who give their all, their mind, body and soul, to the Guru will find Him. Everyone else thakay karam kamaa-ay. Everyone who is following the path of their mind become tired carrying out these actions.” Manhath bhaykh kar bharamday dukh paa-i-aa doojai bhaa-ay. Following their mind they wear these robes but they are still in doubts, still wondering, still deluded. In their love of this duality all they find, all they receive, is pain.
RiDh siDh sabh moh hai naam na vasai man aa-ay. Guruji says, “Those people who acquire miraculous powers – that is all just purely attachment. There is no spiritual gain in that, in supernatural power. The true liberator, shabad of Waheguru does not abide in those people’s mind who fall into the trap of all that supernatural power. But then Guruji says, “ Gur sayvaa tay man nirmal hovai agi-aan anDhayraa jaa-ay.” By doing the sewa of the Guru, by serving the Guru selflessly your mind becomes pure and the darkness of spiritual ignorance is removed.
Naam ratan ghar pargat ho-aa naanak sahj samaa-ay. The diamond, the jewel of Naam becomes revealed within your own home, within your own soul. Within your own body there is that diamond. But how is it found? Through Gursewa! Then what happens? Nanak merges into that state of intuitive balance and peace.
Mehlaa 3.
Sabdai saad na aa-i-o naam na lago pi-aar. Those people who do not find the taste, the raas, the essence of the shabad, of the words of the Guru, they can never find any love for the Naam. They can never attach any love to the naam. Rasnaa fikaa bolnaa nit nit ho-ay khu-aar. That person speaks fikaa which literally means tasteless words, speaking foul words from their mouth. Again and again that person is ruined, is uprooted. Naanak kirat pa-i-ai kamaavanaa ko-ay na maytanhaar. Oh Nanak that person has to act up his past actions, his past karmas which no human being can erase.
Pa-orhee.
Dhan Dhan sat purakh satguroo hamaaraa jit mili-ai ham ka-o saaNt aa-ee. Hail, Hail! Blessed, Blessed is that true being, my Satguru, my true guru upon meeting whom I have been blessed with peace and harmony! Dhan Dhan sat purakh satguroo hamaaraa jit mili-ai ham har bhagat paa-ee. Great, blessed is that true Guru, my satguru, that true being upon meeting whom I have been blessed with the bhaagti, with meditation of Waheguru, of Hari. Dhan Dhan har bhagat satguroo hamaaraa jis kee sayvaa tay ham har naam liv laa-ee. Blessed, hail is the devotee of my Waheguru, of my Satguru by doing whose sewa, by putting myself into His selfless service my conciousness has been attached to the name of Waheguru, to the name of Hari. Dhan Dhan har gi-aanee satguroo hamaaraa. Hail, blessed is the Har gyani, the knower of the Lord, of Waheguru, of Hari, the one who has the knowledge of Waheguru, my satguru. Jin vairee mitar ham ka-o sabh sam darisat dikhaa-ee. My satguru has shown me that my enemies and my friends are all one. I have become sam darisat, I have been able to see one in all. Dhan Dhan satguroo mitar hamaaraa jin har naam si-o hamaaree pareet banaa-ee. Hail, blessed, great is the satguru, my friend, my mittar, my true friend, who created, the planted this love for Waheguru’s naam inside me.
If there is anything to take from the hukamnama today it’s that the darkness of ignorance can be removed through Guru’s grace, through the Guru’s kirpa. “Attach yourself into the sewa of the Guru, into the simran of the Guru and the Guru will bless you. The guru will bless you so much that deda de laide thak pai. He will keep giving and giving but you will tire of receiving, you’ll receive so much.” Guru Amardas is saying.
Manhath kinai na paa-i-o sabh thakay karam kamaa-ay. Manhath bhaykh kar bharamday dukh paa-i-aa doojai bhaa-ay.
