Satgur Arjan Dev ji speaks to us today in the Bilaaval raag, in the raag of happiness, in the raag of joy. And Guru ji says,
bhoolae maarag jinehi bathaaeiaa
Wah! Guruji says, that Guru who is bathaaeiaa, who has told, who has revealed the maarag, the path, the Truth, to bhoolae, to the ones who are wandering, who are in doubt, who are lost. The Guru who is placed upon the path, those who have been put upon the path as Satgur, as such,
aisaa gur vaddabhaagee paaeiaa Is only found through the greatest devotion, through the greatest of Grace, that Guru, like Guru Naanak Dev ji, Guru Gobind Singh ji Maharaj, Guru Granth Sahib Maharaj, is only found with great blessings. Who has taken us out of all of those doubts. Who has taken the human being, the human being out of all the confusion, and has placed him or her back on the path of Truth.
simar manaa Oh my mind! Meditate. On What? raam naam chithaarae With all your chith, with all your mind focused, with all your heart and love focused, meditate upon the raam naam, the Naam, the Name of Waheguru!
bas rehae hiradhai gur charan piaarae
bas rehae. Bas means to dwell. Rehae to be. Hiradhai in the heart. Gur charan means the Guru’s lotus feet, the Guru’s feet. Piaarae means beloved. Oh my mind! Whilst meditating upon the Guru, may the Guru’s beloved lotus feet, may the Guru’s feet, may the Guru’s beloved charan remain in my heart! May I be focused upon them day and night, upon them day and night! simar manaa raam naam chithaarae. bas rehae hiradhai gur charan piaarae. The Guru’s charan, the Guru’s blessed feet! May they be in my heart at all times! What does that mean? It means, May I forever be focused on the Guru, at all times! May I have the Guru, anthar gur aaraadhunaa jihuvaa jap gur naoo. May I have the Guru inside me! May I be internally meditating upon the Guru! As Guru Arjan Dev ji says in the Rehras Sahib: karan har jas naethr dharasan rasan har gun gaao. With my tongue may I be praising the Guru, the Guru’s name! Natree satguru Paikhnaa swarnee sunana Gur Naaoo, With my eyes may I see the Guru! With my ears may I listen to the Guru! May each thing I do be dedicated to the Guru! If I eat, may I only eat what my Guru allows me to eat! I will wait. I will be blessed. I will wait for the time my Guru has told me to wait. That is what this is meaning in each part of my life.
rehaao
Guruji is saying, Pause and think about this.
kaam krodhh lobh mohi man leenaa
This man, this mind is leenaa. Is completely and utterly engrossed, is completely and utterly drunken. On what? Kaam desire. Krodhh anger. Lobh greed. Mohi attachment. These things have completely taken over my mind. But,
bandhhan kaatt The Guru has kaatt. The Guru has cut through my bandhhan, through all the prisons which encage me, through all of these prisons which engage me: the prison of desire, the prison of anger, the prison of greed, the prison of attachment. The Guru has cut through them. And what has the Guru done? mukath gur keenaa. The Guru has mukath, the Guru has blessed me, with mukath, with liberation. The Guru has liberated me.
dhukh sukh karath janam fun mooaa
dhukh sukh karath. Sometimes we experience dhukh, pain; and sometimes we experience sukh, pleasure. Janam fun mooaa . Going through this circle of pain and pleasure, pain and pleasure, we janam are born. We mooaa. We are dying. Living, dying, living. Living, dying. Again, and again, and again, and the circle, and the cycle just keeps on going. Why is the world going through this? Guruji says,
charan kamal gur aasram dheeaa
When the Guru gives me the assram, gives me the shelter, gives me the peace, gives me the blessing of His charan kamal, of His lotus feet, then I find true peace. Then dukh does not affect me. Sukh does not affect me. Janam and maran do not affect me. Pain does not affect me! Guruji is saying at that point: Pain does not affect that being who has sat in the assram, who has taken the shelter of the Guru’s feet. Who has taken the shelter of the Guru’s blessings, the Guru’s lifestyle which the Guru has blessed upon us. The Guru has taken His devotee, the devotee of God, out of pain and pleasure, beyond those stages. Look at Bhai Mati Das, who was being cut in half. There was no pain there on the face of Bhai Mati Das. The Guru had taken His sevaak out of this and given His servant, given the beloved Gursikh, the mantra of his charan karmal. When Bhai Mati Das ji was being cut in half, his last wish was: May I have my face, whilst I am being sawn alive, may my face be towards my beloved Guru! Satugur Teg Bahadr Sahibji Maharaj!
agan saagar booddath sansaaraa
This sansaaraa, this world, is booddath, is drowning. In what? In the saagar, in the ocean of agan, of fire. What does this mean? This ocean of fire around us, this desire which is burning up in the world. All this attachment, all this greed. It is all fire.
naanak baah pakar sathigur nisathaaraa
Oh Naanak, what has happened? Baah pakar, holding my by the arm, holding me by the baah, the Satguru has nisathaaraa, has saved me, has liberated me from this ocean of fire. The Satguru has taken me out of this fire.
In today’s hukamnama, Guru Arjan Dev ji has talked about how great the Satguru is, who has blessed us, bhoolae maarag jinehi bathaaeiaa || aisaa gur vaddabhaagee paaeiaa. Only through great fortune have we been blessed, to be blessed with such a Satguru. With such a Guru as Satguru Gobind Singh Marharj, Sri Guru Granth Sahib Maharaj. Let us get together and do ardaas, in the burning ocean of Kaljug, Satguruji showers His kirpa on us as well, and takes us into His charan, into His aasram, into His protection, into His charan.
agan saagar booddath sansaaraa ||
naanak baah pakar sathigur nisathaaraa ||4||3||8||
Waheguru ji ka Khalsa! Waheguru ji ki Fateh!
