Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh!

The hukamnama today is by Guru Arjan Dev Ji in Raag Soohee on Ang 741 of Siri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaj.

sUhI mhlw 5 ]
soohee mehalaa 5 ||
Soohee, Fifth Mehla:

jIvq mrY buJY pRBu soie ]
jeevath marai bujhai prabh soe ||
One who remains dead while yet alive understands God.

iqsu jn krim prwpiq hoie ]1]
this jan karam paraapath hoe ||1||
He meets that humble being according to the karma of his past actions. ||1||

suix swjn ieau duqru qrIAY ]
sun saajan eio dhuthar thareeai ||
Listen, O friend – this is how to cross over the terrifying world-ocean.

imil swDU hir nwmu aucrIAY ]1] rhwau ]
mil saadhhoo har naam ouchareeai ||1|| rehaao ||
Meet with the Holy, and chant the Lord’s Name||1||Pause||

eyk ibnw dUjw nhI jwnY ]
eaek binaa dhoojaa nehee jaanai ||
There is no other to know, except for the One Lord.

Gt Gt AMqir pwrbRhmu pCwnY ]2]
ghatt ghatt a(n)thar paarabreham pashhaanai ||2||
So realize that the Supreme Lord God is within each and every heart. ||2||

jo ikCu krY soeI Bl mwnY ]
jo kishh karai soee bhal maanai ||
Whatever He does, accept that as good.

Awid AMq kI kImiq jwnY ]3]
aadh a(n)th kee keemath jaanai ||3||
Know the value of the beginning and the end. ||3||

khu nwnk iqsu jn bilhwrI ]
kahu naanak this jan balihaaree ||
Says Nanak, I am a sacrifice to that humble being,

jw kY ihrdY vsih murwrI ]4]15]21]
jaa kai hiradhai vasehi muraaree ||4||15||21||
within whose heart the Lord dwells. ||4||15||21||

ik oa(n)kaar sathigur prasaadh ||
One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:

min rwm nwmu AwrwiDAw gur sbid gurU gur ky ]
man raam naam aaraadhhiaa gur sabadh guroo gur kae ||
My mind worships and adores the Lord’s Name, through the Guru, and the Word of the Guru’s Shabad.

siB ieCw min qin pUrIAw sBu cUkw fru jm ky ]1]
sabh eishhaa man than pooreeaa sabh chookaa ddar jam kae ||1||
All the desires of my mind and body have been fulfilled; all fear of death has been dispelled. ||1||

myry mn gux gwvhu rwm nwm hir ky ]
maerae man gun gaavahu raam naam har kae ||
O my mind, sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord’s Name.

guir quTY mnu prboiDAw hir pIAw rsu gtky ]1] rhwau ]
gur thut(h)ai man parabodhhiaa har peeaa ras gattakae ||1|| rehaao ||
And when the Guru is pleased and satisfied, the mind is instructed; it then joyfully drinks in the subtle essence of the Lord. ||1||Pause||

sqsMgiq aUqm siqgur kyrI gun gwvY hir pRB ky ]
sathasa(n)gath ootham sathigur kaeree gun gaavai har prabh kae ||
The Sat Sangat, the True Congregation of the True Guru, is sublime and exalted. They sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord God.

hir ikrpw Dwir mylhu sqsMgiq hm Dovh pg jn ky ]2]
har kirapaa dhhaar maelahu sathasa(n)gath ham dhhoveh pag jan kae ||2||
Bless me with Your Mercy, Lord, and unite me with the Sat Sangat; I wash the feet of Your humble servants. ||2||

rwm nwmu sBu hY rwm nwmw rsu gurmiq rsu rsky ]
raam naam sabh hai raam naamaa ras guramath ras rasakae ||
The Lord’s Name is all. The Lord’s Name is the essence of the Guru’s Teachings, the juice, the sweetness of it.

hir AMimRqu hir jlu pwieAw sB lwQI iqs iqs ky ]3]
har a(n)mrith har jal paaeiaa sabh laathhee this this kae ||3||
I have found the Ambrosial Nectar, the Divine Water of the Lord’s Name, and all my thirst for it is quenched. ||3||

hmrI jwiq pwiq guru siqguru hm vyicE isru gur ky ]
hamaree jaath paath gur sathigur ham vaechiou sir gur kae ||
The Guru, the True Guru, is my social status and honor; I have sold my head to the Guru.

jan naanak naam pariou gur chaelaa gur raakhahu laaj jan kae ||4||1||
Servant Nanak is called the chaylaa, the disciple of the Guru; O Guru, save the honor of Your servant. ||4||1||
