The True Guru is merciful to the meek; in His Presence, the Lord’s Praises are sung.

The Ambrosial Name of the Lord is chanted in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy.

bhaj sa(n)g saadhhoo eik araadhhoo janam maran dhukh naaseae ||
Vibrating, and worshipping the One Lord in the Company of the Holy, the pains of birth and death are removed.

Those who have such karma pre-ordained, study and learn the Truth; the noose of Death is removed from their necks.

Those who are attached to Your feet are very blessed; night and day, they remain always awake and aware.

Forever and ever, meditate in remembrance on the Lord and Master; with each and every breath, speak His Glorious Praises.

Satguru Arjan Dev ji Mahal Patshah speaks to us today. Guru Maharaj ji says to us Ik Oaankar Sat(t)h Gur Prasaad. There is One, Eternal Waheguru, Akaal Purukh, who brings light to the entire world. Who is Sat(t), Who is forever True, and Who is found through Gur Prasaad, through the Guru’s Grace.

sathigur dheen dhaeiaal sathigur, That True Guru is dheen dhaeiaal, dhaeiall, is merciful. Upon whom? Upon the dheen, the meek, the lowly. jis sa(n)g har gaaveeai jeeo. Meeting the Guru, in the sangat of the Guru, what is it that we were meant to do? Guru Arjan Dev ji tells us, Har aaveeai. Sing the praises of Hari, of Waheguru.

a(n)mrith har kaa naam  The a(n)mrith, the Nectar of God’s Name, the immortal Nectar, the essence of immortality which is God’s name har kaa naam, saadhhasa(n)g raaveeai jeeo. Raaveeai, Meditate upon, Enjoy that a(n)mrith raas, that amrit Naam, in the sadhsangat, in the Congregation of the Holy.

bhaj sa(n)g saadhhoo  Bhaj, meditate, in the san(n)g, in the sangat, in the company of the saadhhoo, in the company of the Saints. eik araadhhoo. Meditate upon the One, upon Eik Oaankar.  Focus yourself upon the One, becoming One, and meditating on One.  janam maran dhukh naaseae And the dhukh, the pain of being born and of dying again and again, and of being reincarnated, naaseae, will be removed.

dhhur karam likhiaa Those people, who have it written in their pre-ordained destiny, dhhur karam, dhhur karam, saach sikhiaa, they sikhiaa, they receive the learning, the wisdom of saach, of Truth. They realize what truly exists, what truly reality is. They realize as Guru Arjan Dev Mahal Patshah says, sathigur saranee aaeiaaan baahurr nehee binaas ||
har naanak kadhae n visaro eaehu jeeo pindd thaeraa saas (Ang 52),

Guru Patshah says, Nothing else is true, apart from Waheguru. And they realize that. And then what happens? kattee jam kee faaseae. The faaseae, the noose around the neck of Death, of jam is taken away. They can’t be killed. They can’t be killed. Why? Because, they have Waheguru, and Akaal Purukh, the understanding of Waheguru within them. But really this world is not true. It is transitory. What is true in this world? They realize, Waheguru, Akaal Purukh, is the only true thing, the only true entity In this world. They realize that everything else is simply not true. As Guru Naanak Patshah ji  says in Japji Sahib (Ang 4), sach puraanaa hovai naahee seethaa kadhae n paattai || naanak saahib sacho sachaa thichar jaapee jaapai ||1||

Those who have God in their hearts will never die. bhai bharam naat(h)ae All their fears, bharam, and  their doubts, naat(h)ae, run away. shhuttee gaat(h)ae And the gaat(h)ee, the knot within them, is taken away, is shhutee.  jam pa(n)thh mool n aaveeai. Mool n , not even for a second do they have to walk on the pa(n)thh, on the path of jam, of Death.

binava(n)th naanak dhhaar kirapaa Naanak says, Please bless me with your mercy, Oh Waheguru! sadhaa har gun gaaveeai. May we all forever meditate and sing the praises of you, of Hari.

nidhhariaa dhhar eaek naam nira(n)jano jeeo. What is the nidhaaraiaa?  What is the support of those who have no other support? Guru Sahibji says, It is the Naam, of nira(n)jano, of that Waheguru who is beyond this Maya, beyond this illusion.

thoo dhaathaa dhaathaar You are the Giver to all, Waheguru, the Greatest.  sarab dhukh bha(n)jano jeeo. Oh Waheguru! You are the one who bha(n)gano, who can break sarab dhukh, all pain.

You are the Destroyer of all pain, dhukh harath. Harath means the destroyer. karathaa means the Creator, sukheh suaamee, You are the Lord of bliss, of joy, of harmony. saran saadhhoo aaeiaa, and I have come looking for You. And where have I come? I have come into the saadhhoo, into the protection of the Saints.

sa(n)saar saagar mehaa bikharraa This sa(n0saar, this ocean of the world, saagar, is mehaa  bikharaa, Bicharaa means difficult to get across. pal eaek maahi tharaaeiaa. But with the grace of the Saints, pal eaek, eaek means one, maahi tharaaeiaa means to meet, tp be taken across. With kirpa, with the kirpa of the Saints, I have been taken across this ocean, in a second.

poor rehiaa sarab thhaaee gur giaan naethree a(n)jano I see that You are poor rehiaa, that You are rehiaa, pervading, sarab thhaaee, through all places. Why? Because of gur giaan naethree a(n)jano. Because the Guru has given me the a(n)jano, the ointment. The Guru has given me the medicine, of Naam, of giann, of the wisdom, of the spiritual understanding of my naethree, of my eyes.

binava(n)th naanak sadhaa simaree Naanak prays that he may ever meditate upon sahdaa, sarab dhukh bhai bha(n)jano, on that Waheguru who is the  Remover of all bhai, all fear,  and all dhukh, all pain.

aap leeeae larr laae kirapaa dhhaareeaa jeeo Waheguruji has aap leeeeae, has attached, those people. Those people whom Waheguru has attached to larr, to the hem of His robe, to Himself, laee kirapaa, are blessed with His kirapaa, with His Grace.

mohi niragun neech anaathh prabh agam apaareeaa jeeo  Waheguru, I am niragun, I have no virtues, I am lowly, I am neech.  Anaathh, I have no other support. Prabh, Waheguru, you are agam, You are beyond anyone’s thinking. appareeaa, You are Infinite.

dhaeiaal sadhaa kirapaal Akaal Purukh, You are always merciful. Sadhaa kirapaal, always Charitable. Suaamee, My Lord, neech thhaapanehaariaa, You are the only one who can uplift.  thhaapanehaariaa, means to uplift, to uplift the lowly ones, the neech.

jeea ja(n)th sabh  All the Creatures, all the beings, everthing is in Your vas, is under Your power.  thaerai sagal thaeree saariaa. You are the one who saariaa, who checks, who nourishes, who looks after all.

aap karathaa  You are Waheguru. You are the One who creates everyone.  aap bhugathaa, You are the one who lives through everyone, and sees everyone, and enjoys life through everyone. aap sagal beechaareeaa. Beechaareaa, You are the one who meditates upon everyone, who thinks of everyone,

binava(n)th naanak  Naanak prays, gun gaae jeevaa, by singing Your Praises, har jap japo banavaareeaa. Oh Waheguru! May I meditate upon Your jap, upon Your meditation. Banavaareeaa, Oh Lord of this Garden of the world!

thaeraa dharas Your Vision, Your blessed darshan, apaar there is nothing like it on this earth. naam amolee jeeo. Your naam is amolee, which means it is beyond all value. It is just amazing.

nith japehi thaerae dhaas  Nith, again and again, Your dhass, Your servants, japehi, mediate upon You. purakh atholee jeeo. Purakh, You are the Being, atholee, of whom there is no other like You on this earth.

sa(n)th rasan voot(h)aa You voot(h)aa, you abide where? On the rasan, on the rasan of the sa(n)th, of the Saints,  when they speak. aap thoot(h)aa har rasehi saeee maathiaa. And upon those whom You, Yourself, thoot(h)aa, blessed with Your Grace. har rasehi saeee maathiaa. Those people have become maathiaa, completely in toxicated with Your raas, with Your Essence, Waheguru.

gur charan laagae mehaa bhaagae Those people who love You, those people who attach themselves to gur charan, to the Guru’s lotus feet, mehaa bhaagae, their fortunes are blessed. sadhaa anadhin jaagiaa.  And they remain awake, day and night, What does that mean? It means that they remain aware. Lust cannot cheat them.  Anger cannot take anything from them. Hatred cannot change their state of harmony, of chardi kala.

sadh sadhaa si(n)mrathaby suaamee Forever and ever they meditate upon the suaamee, upon the Lord, saas saas, and with each breath,  gun bolee, speak of His praises.

binava(n)th naanak O Naanak! I do this one prayer, this last prayer: dhhorr saadhhoo, the dust of the feet of the Saints! naam prabhoo amolee, And may I meditate upon the Holy, the priceless Naam, of prabhoo, of Waheguru. So in this shabad, Guru Arjan Dev ji, Pahashta is telling us that Waheguru is the One who uplifts the lowly. Waheguru is the One who blesses us with His Naam. Guru Arjan Dev ji Maharaj is telling us, Fall by His feet and you will receive all.
