Sahib Maharaj Sri Guru Amardas ji talks to us today through the Vadahans raag, the raag with Grace, and Guru Amardas ji says,

bin sathigur saevae  bin means without, saevae means servant of the Satgur. Bin sathigur saevae jeea kae ba(n)dhhanaa.  Those who do not serve the Guru are shackled in the jeea kae ba(n)dhhanaa. In manacles, in handcuffs around the soul. The soul is shackled. Why? Because vich houmai karamkamaahi. Because those people,  they act, all the things they do are out of houmai, are out of ego. Because a Gurmukh, one who follows the Guru, does everything out of love for the Guru. But a manmukh does everything out of love for his mind. Out of love for himself, for herself, out of ego. But Guruji says that without love for the Guru, the soul has ba(n)dhhanaa around it, is trapped, encaged, by all these actions of ego.

bin sathigur saevae t(h)our n paavehee mar ja(n)mehi aavehi jaahi
And because of this, those who do not serve the sathigur, the True Guru, t(h)our n paavehee, they find no t(h)our, no rest, their soul can never rest. Why? Because mar ja(n)mehi aavehi. Because all these actions that are done in ego, mar ja(n)mehi, mar, they die. Jja(n)mehi. They come and go in this world in reincarnation.

bin sathigur saevae fikaa bolanaa naam n vasai man maahi
Without serving the True Guru, fikaa bolanaa, whenever they speak, those people, whenever they speak, it Is fikaa, they speak harsh words, fikaa bolanaa. Naam n vasai  man maahi. Naam, the name of Waheguru, n vasai, does not abide within, does not abide in their minds, does not abide in their man. The Naam can never enter that place, that mind, that has never done the saevae, the service of the True Guru.

Then Guru Amardas ji says naanak bin sathigur saevae, without serving the True Guru, jam pur badhhae maareean muhi kaalai. Badhhae means to be tied. Maareean means to be beaten. Jam pur means the City of Death. Without serving the True Guru, those people are beaten. When they die, this cage of ego around them, cages of ego, they do not merge in with the kaalai. They fall back into the cycle of reincarnation, they have to go through all this pain. Muhi kaalai. They leave this earth with their faces blackened. Now the blackening of the face was a sign of dishonour in India. And what Guru Amardas ji is saying is, that without serving the  True Guru, our face is blackened, because we haven’t achieved what we have come on this earth to achieve.

mehalaa 1

Now Guru Nanak Dev ji speaks:  jaalo aisee reeth jith mai piaaraa veesarai. Jaalo is ritual. Though that ritual, forget that ritual.  Jith mai piaaraa veesarai, forget that act, jith mai piaaraa veesarai. you forget  your Beloved, your forget your piaaraa,  Waheguru. Nanak is saying: Forget all those things which break you away from God, which break you away from Waheguru.

naanak, Oh Nanaak! saaee bhalee pareethSaaee, that,  pareeth , love,  is bhalee,is good. jith saahib saethee path rehai Only those things are blessed which sahib saethee path rehai, only those things are saethee, are preserved by which my path, my honour, is preserved by Waheguru. Guru Nanak Dev ji is saying:  Do those things which please your  beloved Waheguru. Do not do those things which break you away from him.

pourree

har eiko dhaathaa saeveeai har eik dhhiaaeeai
har eiko dhaathaa saeveeai, saeveeai, serve, har eik dhhiaaeeai, that One Giver, dhaathaa means giver. That one Giver, Hari. Serve that one Giver to the whole world, Hari, har eik dhhiaaeeai. Dhhiaaeeai means to meditate. Meditate upon that  one Har eik Waheguru.

har eiko dhaathaa ma(n)geeai Ma(n)geeai  Beg! Beg from that one dhaathaa, that One Giver Hari, who gives to the whole world. Then what happens? man chi(n)dhiaa paaeeai. Whatever your man, whatever your mind, what ever your heart, chi(n)dhiaa, your heart, whatever your mind, whatever your heart wants, you will, paaeeai, you will find that.

jae dhoojae paasahu ma(n)geeai thaa laaj maraaeeai
jae, But if, jae dhoojae passahu ma(n)geeai. But if you beg, dhoojae, from another, paasahu ma(n)geeai, if you beg bread, if you beg from anyone else other than Akaal Purakh(u), thaa laii maraaeeai. Then Guruji says: thaa laai maraaeeai. You should not die with laai, with shame. Guruji say: You should not give up your  One Akaal Purakh(u), your Waheguru, who loves you so much, to beg from another.

jin saeviaa thin fal paaeiaa this jan kee sabh bhukh gavaaeeai
jin saeviaa, those people who have served Waheguru, thin fal paaeiaa, they have paaeiaa, they have obtained, they have received fal, fruits, they have obtained the fruits of their labor. They have been given, what have they been given? Guru Nanaak says:  this jan kee, to that servant, that great Gurmukh who serves Great Waheguru, sabh bhukh, all of his bhukh, all of his hungers, all of his desires, gavaaeeai, are taken away. There is no more desire left, there is no more hunger left.

naanak thin vittahu vaariaa Naanak is a sacrifice, vaariaa, to those Gurmukhs, jin , who anadhin, day and night, hiradhai, in their heart,  har naam dhhiaaeeai, meditate day and night, dhhiaaeeai, meditate upon the har naam, the mantra of the Guru. That eternal vibration of Waheguru. What Guru Sahibji is saying is:  Serve the Guru. Abandon all those things which take you away from Har Naam, and meditate upon the Holy Naam.

bin sathigur saevae jeea kae ba(n)dhhanaa vich houmai karam kamaahi ||
