Guru Arjan Dev ji Maharaj is talking to us in the Sorath Raag and Guru ji is saying to us today,
taap gavaa-i-aa gur pooray, pooray means perfect, gur means Guru, the perfect Guru, gavaa-i-aa means to destroy, taap means fever; the True Guru has taken away my fever, my mental, spiritual and physical fever/
vaajay anhad tooray, what happens now? vaajay means to be played, anhad means unstruck melody, tooray means to resound; the unstruck melody, which vaajays through everything now resounds inside my soul.
sarab kali-aan parabh keenay, Guru ji say, sarab means all, kali-aan means comforts, prabh means lord, keenay means to shower upon us, God has showered upon me and bestowed me with all comforts, with all blessings.
kar kirpaa aap deenay, kirpa means mercy, showering his mercy, aap, he himself, deenay, has given me these gifts of liberation.
baydan satgur aap gavaa-ee, baydan means disease, satgur means the true guru, aap means himself, gavaa-ee means to destroy; the Guru Himself destroyed the disease.
What disease is Guru ji talking about here? When Guru Hargobind Sahib ji was young, he caught fever and this shabad is attached historically to that time. After the fever left and Guru Arjan Dev ji was thanking God that Guru Hargobind Sahib ji was saved from the fever by Waheguru. But this same fever in a way relates to us as well, because we have the fever of lust, we have the fever of ego, we have the fever of greed, we have the fever of attachment, we have the fever of anger. And the Guru can take away this fever, these diseases.
sikh sant sabh sarsay ho-ay har har naam Dhi-aa-ee, sikh means sikhs, sant means saints, all the sikhs and saints, sabh means all, sarsay means happy, ho-ay means to be; all filled with happiness and joy; har har naam Dhi-aa-ee, by dhi-aa-ee, by meditating upon the name of naam, har har, Lord Waheguru.
rahaa-o, Guru ji says Pause and Think.
jo mangeh so layveh, jo means whatever, mangeh means you ask for, so means that, layveh means you get. If you meditate upon God, you get whatever you ask for.
parabh apni-aa santaa dayveh, prabh means Waheguru, apni-aa means to His own, santaa means saints, deyveh means give; God gives everything to His saints.
har govid parabh raakhi-aa, har govind, the young child Guru, prabh means Waheguru, raakhi-aa means to save; God, Waheguru ji saved Hargobind Sahib ji from the fever. And Waheguru can save us from the fever of lust, anger, greed, attachment, ego.
jan naanak saach subhaakhi-aa, jan means the Servant Nanak, saach means the Truth, subhaakhi-aa means to speak, the Servant Nanak speaks the Truth.
In this shabad, Guru Maharaj is talking about not just physical fever but also mental and spiritual fever and they can all be taken away by meditating upon Waheguru.
baydan satgur aap gavaa-ee. sikh sant sabh sarsay ho-ay har har naam Dhi-aa-ee. rahaa-o.
Waheguru ji ka Khalsa! Waheguru ji ki Fateh!
Katha by Bhai Guruka Singh
This Shabad is by Guru Arjan Dev Ji in Raag Sorath on Ang 626.
Waheguru ji ka Khalsa! Waheguru ji ki Fateh!
Today’s hukam is from Guru Arjan Dev ji in Raag Sora’th. And it is a very simple hukam of joy and thanksgiving.
Guruji wrote this on the occasion of his son’s recovery from a terrible fever, which brought him near death. And Guruji says, the perfect Guru has dispelled the fever, and the Anhad Shabad, the sound of sounds, the music of the spheres, resounds in joy. And that through the mercy of God, comfort and health has returned. He says that the disease was not cured by doctors, but that the true Guru himself cured Hargobind ji.
And he says that the entire Sadhsangat, and all of the saints and sages, in the earthly and etheric realms, are filled with joy, meditating on the name of God, Har! Har! That the prayers of the saints were answered. And he ends by simply saying that Hargobind was saved by the will of God; not by the act of any man.
Waheguru ji ka Khalsa! Waheguru ji ki Fateh!
