Dhan Dhan Sahib Sri Guru Amar Das Ji Maharaj blesses us “Ghar Pehla” in the First House in the Sorath Raag. Satguru Ji Maharaj says:

tihee gunee taribhavan vi-aapi-aa bhaa-ee gurmukh boojh bujhaa-ay

“taribhavan” – all three worlds, the whole universe is “vi-aapi-aa” engaged in the “tihee gunaa” three qualities of the world. What are they? “Sato” which is the saintly quality, the saintly “gunaa”; “Rajo” the kingly quality and “Tamo” the dark quality, these three qualities affect the whole world. Everyone has a mixture of these within them, some have more kingly “Rajo” than “Sato” saintly, some have more “Sato” saintly than “Rajo” kingly. Some have more “Tamo” darkness within them. But the whole world is affected by them “bhaa-ee” O my brothers. The “gurmukh” in this case – “mukh” means head, “mukh” means beyond all, the Guru is beyond all of these and who is the most important. boojh bujhaa-ay has blessed me with this understanding, “gurmukh” in this case meaning the Guru.

raam naam lag chhootee-ai bhaa-ee poochhahu gi-aanee-aa jaa-ay.
The Guru has said if you want to be liberated from these three qualities, then attach yourselves to “Raam Naam” name of God and then you will be “chootee-ai” freed, O brother. poochhahu giaanee-aa jaa-ay You can even go and ask the people who have wisdom about this.

man ray tarai gun chhod cha-uthai chit laa-ay
O my mind give up the three qualities; tarai gun chhod give up “tamo”, give up “rajo”, give up “sato”, give up the lowliness, beyond humility of “sato”, give up the strangle of “rajo” the kingly, give up the entanglement of dark “tamo gunaa”. cha-uthai chit laa-ay Look for the fourth state of life, the fourth state of awareness. And this fourth state of awareness is called “turiya avastha” in Gurmat. It’s where you are beyond the three qualities and you are going into merging into Braham, into Akaal Purakh, into Waheguru. Satguru Ji says focus into this.

har jee-o tayrai man vasai bhaa-ee sadaa har kay gun gaa-ay. rahaa-o
What happens in that? Waheguru will come and abide in your mind, O brother. But how do you get this? By sadaa har kay gun gaa-ay forever singing the praises of Waheguru. Guru Ji says to pause and think about this.

naamai tay sabh oopjay bhaa-ee naa-ay visri-ai mar jaa-ay
Everythinf was created from the Naam, from the name of Waheguru. naa-ay visri-ai mar jaa-ay and by forgetting the Naam we die inside, spiritually.

agi-aanee jagat anDh hai bhaa-ee sootay ga-ay muhaa-ay
This whole world is “agi-aanee” is without wisdom, every being is ignorant, Guru Sahib Ji is saying, “anDh hai” is in darkness O my brothers. Those people who are in darkness, sootay ga-ay muhaa-ay they fall into the sleep of this illusion, and they are robbed. “muhaa-ay” means looted, robbed. What are they robbed of? They are robbed of their peace, their harmony, they are robbed of the inner sense of being one with Waheguru.

gurmukh jaagay say ubray bhaa-ee bhavjal paar utaar
But the ones who follow the Guru they are always awake. And because of this they are liberated “ubray” O my brothers. bhavjal paar utaar They cross this ocean of fear.

jag meh laahaa har naam hai bhaa-ee hirdai rakhi-aa ur Dhaar.
O my brothers the only “laahaa” profit in this world is to meditate upon the Har naam, name of the Waheguru, hirdai rakhi-aa ur Dhaar and to keep Waheguru within your heart.

gur sarnaa-ee ubray bhaa-ee raam naam liv laa-ay
O my brothers enter the “sarnaa-ee” the protection of the Guru if you want to be “ubray” liberated. raam naam liv laa-ay And the Guru will tune you in and attach your “liv” your consciousness to Waheguru, to “raam naam”, to the name of God.

naanak naa-o bayrhaa naa-o tulharhaa bhaa-ee jit lag paar jan paa-ay.
O Nanak the name of God is the “bayrhaa” boat to carry you across. naa-o tulharhaa The name of God is the raft to get you across this ocean. bhaa-ee jit lag paar jan paa-ay O my brother, this is how the servant of Waheguru can be liberated, can cross this ocean through meditating upon the Naam.

So in this Hukamnama today Guru Amar Das Ji is talking about going beyond the three qualities of this world “Sato, Rajo and Tamo” and looking for that fourth state of existence, that blessed “turiya avastha”. That “turiya avastha” in which Braham deesai, Braham suniyai. You get the avastha as Guru Ji is talking about where you see the Lord in all, just like Bhai Kanhaiyaa ji. So if you want to follow Guru Amar Das Ji’s words today you will join in and you will realize and you will experience “Braham Deesai”, you will see God in all; “Braham suniyai” you will hear God in all; “ek ek vakhaneeai” you will only know one as Guru Arjan Dev Ji says on Ang 846 of Guru Granth Sahib Ji. aatam pasaaraa karan haara parabh beena nahi jaaneeai You will see that no one else is doing anything, there is only Waheguru doing everything. aap kartaa he is the creator ; aap bhugtaa he is the one who lives through this world; aap kaaran kiyaa he creates everything. binwant naanak sayee jaaneh jinee har ras peeyaa But you only find this if you drink the essence of God’s name. And that is exactly what Guru Amar Das Ji is saying in this Hukamnama today.

gur sarnaa-ee ubray bhaa-ee raam naam liv laa-ay naanak naa-o bayrhaa naa-o tulharhaa bhaa-ee jit lag paar jan paa-ay

Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh
