May slave Nanak sing Your Glorious Praises; O True Guru, please share the Teachings with me. ||8||3||5||
In the raag of complete and utter divine love, in the crimson color of the Soohi Raag Guru Nanak Dev Ji says:
manhu na naam visaar ahinis Dhi-aa-ee-ai. From your mind –“manhu” do not “visaar” forget the name of Waheguru, the name of the Lord, the name of the God. “ahinis” day and night dhiaaeeai, meditate upon this name.
ji-o raakhahi kirpaa Dhaar tivai sukh paa-ee-ai O Waheguru jio raakhahi in the way you keep me, in the way you protect me “kirpaa dhaar” in your mercy, tivai sukh oaa-eeai in that way, in that command, in that will, I find peace.
mai anDhulay har naam lakutee tohnee “mai andhula” I am blind, har naam lakutee tohnee God’s name. Waheguru’s name is my cane. It is the way to find my way out of this darkness.
raha-o saahib kee tayk na mohai mohnee. ||1|| rahaa-o I live, I remain, “raha-o” with the “tek” support of my Lord, of my Waheguru, of my “saahib”. na mohai mohnee I am not attached by maya. I do not feel that I will be enticed by maya , by this falsehood around me. This falsehood cannot touch me because I have taken up the support of Waheguru. “Rahaa-o” Guruji says pause and think about this.
jah daykh-a-u tah naal gur daykhaali-aa. Wherever I look, jah daykhao, tah naal, I see Waheguru is with me. Why? Because the Guru has daykhaaliaa shown me this.
antar baahar bhaal sabad nihaali-aa I searched God, antar baahar, inside and out, but sabad nihaaliaa I realized Him, I realized Waheguru, I saw God through the “sabad” , his word, through the vibration of the word Waheguru, of the name of Waheguru, through Satnaam.
sayvee satgur bhaa-ay naam niranjanaa. So serve the true Guru, with bhaa-ay love and meditate upon the name of “niranjanaa”, of Waheguru.
tuDh bhaavai tivai rajaa-ay bharam bha-o bhanjnaa. As it pleases you O Waheguru, in your command, tivai rajaa-ay, in your will, in your pleasure , bharam my doubts, bhao my fear, bhanjnaa will be destroyed, will be taken away.
janmat hee dukh laagai marnaa aa-ay kai. Guru ji says janmat hee dukh laagai from the very moment of your “janam”, from the very moment of your birth, pain attaches itself to you. As soon as the child is born, he cries. Pain is there from the very first moment he is alive. marnaa aa-ay kai And many people do not find liberation from these pains because they do not realize the God, they do not meditate upon God. And then what happens? marnaa aa-ay kai Death comes upon them, death comes and takes them away. But, for those persons who remember God, Guru Nanak Dev Ji says,
janam maran parvaan har gun gaa-ay kai. Their birth and death are parvaan accepted, is satisfied, is fulfilled, is blessed. For those people who die after singing praises of God, Hari, gun gaa-ay kai, of Waheguru.
ha-o naahee too hoveh tuDh hee saaji-aa. When there is no “ha-o” ego, too hoveh then you exist. The Siri Singh Sahib Bhai Harbhajan Singh Ji Khalsa used to say that you can either live in ego or you on the path of God. There are only two choices. And Guru Nanak Dev Ji says when ego is eliminated then you see Waheguru in all. tudh hee saajiaa And then you see Waheguru himself created all this around us.
aapay thaap uthaap sabad nivaaji-aa Waheguru “aapay” himself thaap uthaap established and disestablished, created and destroyed, sabad nivaajiaa and through the Shabad, through the vibration of the word of God, Guru says that Waheguru has exalted and elevated all things.
dayhee bhasam rulaa-ay na jaapee kah ga-i-aa. When this “dayhee” body, “rulaa-ay” rolls in the dust becomes one with the dust, with the bhasam, then no people know where the soul has gone. kah ga-i-aa No one knows where the soul has gone. When we die nobody will come to us and greet us. Our body will be cremated or buried, get rid of it in any fashion but our soul will be nowhere to be found. But then Guru Nanak Dev Ji says,
aapay rahi-aa samaa-ay so vismaad bha-i-aa. God himself is pervading through all. so vismaad bha-iaa And Guru Ji says realizing this that my soul is part of that unending truth of Waheguru, God and Satnaam, I go into “vismaad”, I go into divine ecstasy.
tooN naahee parabh door jaaneh sabh too hai. O Waheguru you are not far away from me, O Prabhu, O Lord. jaaneh sabh too hai Waheguru you know everything, because you pervade through all.
gurmukh vaykh hadoor antar bhee too hai. The gurmukh, one who follows the Guru sees you Waheguru to be “hadoor” , to be ever present. Bhagat Ravi Das says keh ravidaas haath peh nayreh-ai God is closer to you than your own hand. antar bhee too hai O Waheguru you are within us, you are in our souls, you are our soul, our souls are a drop from your ocean. Then in the last two lines Guru Nanak beautifully asks,
mai deejai naam nivaas antar saaNt ho-ay. O Waheguru please bless me with a home in your name, naam nivaas. Please bless me with your name, with the comfort of your name. Why, so that my “antar” inner self may be at peace, “saanth”.
gun gaavai naanak daas satgur mat day-ay. Nanak the slave sings the praises of Waheguru. So that one day the true Guru may bless the slave Nanak with the understanding of the teaching of the God.
Guru Nanak maharaj is talking to us and saying the only way out of this darkness is to follow the light. The light emanates through all of us, the eternal light of Waheguru’s glory.
Waheguru ji ka Khalsa! Waheguru ji ki Fateh!
mai anDhulay har naam lakutee tohnee
raha-o saahib kee tayk na mohai mohnee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
