The hukamnama today is by Guru Amardasji Maharaj, in the Goojaree Raag, on Ang 508 of Siri Guru Granth Sahibji Maharaj.

This world perishing in attachment and possessiveness; no one knows the way of life.

gur kai bhaanai jo chalai thaa jeevan padhavee paahi |

One who walks in harmony with the Guru’s Will, obtains the supreme status of life.

Those humble beings who focus their consciousness on the Lord’s Feet, live forever and ever.

Within the self is the pain of doubt; engrossed in worldly affairs, they are killing themselves.

dhoojai bhaae suthae kabehi n jaagehi maaeiaa moh piaar |

Asleep in the love of duality, they never wake up; they are in love with, and attached to Maya.

naam n chaethehi sabadh n veechaarehi eihu manamukh kaa aachaar |

They do not think of the Naam, the Name of the Lord, and they do not contemplate the Word of the Shabad. This is the conduct of the self-willed manmukhs.

They do not obtain the Lord’s Name, and they waste away their lives in vain; O Nanak, the Messenger of Death punishes and dishonors them. ||2||

He created Himself – at that time, there was no other.

He consulted Himself for advice, and what He did came to pass.

At that time, there were no Akaashic Ethers, no nether regions, nor the three worlds.

thadhahu aapae aap nirankaar hai naa oupath hoee |
qdhu Awpy Awip inrMkwru hY nw Epiq hoeI ]
At that time, only the Formless Lord Himself existed – there was no creation.

As it pleased Him, so did He act; without Him, there was no other. ||1||

Siri Guru Amardasji Maharaj is speaking to us through salok, mehala and paure.

goojaree kee vaar mehalaa 3 sikandhar biraahim kee vaar kee dhunee gaaounee
Satguruji says, “This is the vaar of goojaree Rag by the third light of Guru Nanak and is sung to the tune of sikandhar biraahim.

ik oankaar sathigur prasaadh |
There is one eternal light, Waheguru, who brings light into all. He fuses His light into all. Sathigur Prasaad; who is found through the grace of the true Guru.

This is the middle part of the shabad, what the whole shabad is based on.

eihu jagath mamathaa muaa jeevan kee bidh naahi |
This world is dying in mamathaa, this false sense of ownership, this idea that we own everything but we own nothing! Satguruji says, “No one has the method, has the way, knows the way of even living their life!” Nobody knows this in this world.

gur kai bhaanai jo chalai thaa jeevan padhavee paahi |
Guruji says, “The one who walks according to the will, the command of the Guru then than person acquires the status of being alive.” Only those people are truly alive who follow Guru’s path. Other than them everyone is dead! Satugurji says, “On a spiritual place everyone is dead. Those people who aren’t alive inside, whose souls’ haven’t been awaken they are dying. They are perishing in this world.”

oue sadhaa sadhaa jan jeevathae jo har charanee chith laahi |
Those people, those humble servants of the Guru forever and forever live on. They never perish away. Those people who attach their consciousness to the lotus feet of Waheguru.

naanak nadharee man vasai guramukh sehaj samaahi |1|
Oh Nanak only through God’s grace does God comes to abide within your mind. Through His grace those who follow the Guru they merge into this level of complete bliss, beyond bliss, this complete level of balance and grace.

andhar sehasaa dhukh hai aapai sir dhandhai maar |
Inside us there is the pain of sehasaa, it means doubt, disbelief, anxiety. This doubt that, “Oh if I don’t do this then this won’t happen. If I wasn’t here then this woudn’t happen. What will happen if this happens? All this ifs, buts, thens that fly around in our mind!” So Guruji says, “Through these anxieties everyone is spiritually killing themselves. Through all these worldly affairs everyone is just suffocating in this material world. No one is looking for that eternal life.

dhoojai bhaae suthae kabehi n jaagehi maaeiaa moh piaar |
People are asleep in love with duality, in love with this material world, in love with things that are going to perish away. They never wake! Why? Because they have love and they have attachment to moh; attachments of this world and maya; the illusion, the wall of falsehood, the things that perish and pass away.

naam n chaethehi sabadh n veechaarehi eihu manamukh kaa aachaar |
They do not meditate upon the Naam, they do not contemplate, understand! This is how a manmukh conducts himself. This is how a manmukh lives his life. In this complete and utter drunken sleep.

har naam n paaeiaa janam birathaa gavaaeiaa naanak jam maar karae khuaar |2|
Those people have not obtained, have not found the naam of Hari and because of that they have lost this life. Their life is wasted. Oh Nanak they are beaten by the messengers of death. Khuaar means to be disgraced and be humiliated. They are humiliated by death. Death comes upon all. Death comes to manmukhs and gurmukhs but there is a difference. When the manmukh goes they are disgraced but when the gurmukh goes then what happens? Guru Arjan Devji explains on Ang 252 of Siri Guru Granth Sahibji Maharaj, they say, “When a Gurmukh passes away from this physical world then what happens? Rae rae dharageh kehai n kooo. aao baith aadhar subh dhaeoo. In the court of the Lord no one speaks harsh words to those Gurmukhs, everyone says come and sit down. Everyone is welcoming.” That is the difference.

aapanaa aap oupaaeioun thadhahu hor n koee |
When He created Himself from Himself, at that time when there was no world or anything else, at that point there was no other.

mathaa masoorath aap karae jo karae s hoee |
mathaa masoorath literally means council and advice. Waheguruji did not ask anyone else for advice, He asked Himself. Whatever He did s hoee.

thadhahu aakaas n paathaal hai naa thrai loee |
At that point there was no skies, not underworlds, these three worlds’ did not exist, the skies, the underworlds’ and this world; they did not exit.

thadhahu aapae aap nirankaar hai naa oupath hoee |
At that point there was formless Waheguru. There was no creation, no one was created at that point.

jio this bhaavai thivai karae this bin avar n koee |1|
As it pleases Him, He acted in that way. Without Him there is no other at that point. Satguruji is taking us back to that point when there was just Ik.

So Satuguruji in this shabad has taken us from explaining that this world is asleep back to that wake. What does that mean? It means that if you want to wake up you have to join to the Ik and meditate upon that One Waheguru, that absolute nirankaar form. May Satugurji do kirpa upon all of us today and bless us with their grace and that we may follow this blessed hukam for today and for every day of our lives.
