Dhan Dhan Sodhi Sultan Sri Guru Ram Das Ji Maharaj, the Lord of miracles, Chauthay Paatshah speaks to us today in the Raag Soohee. Satgur Ji says Raag Soohee, this is in the Raag Soohee; Mehalaa 4, the fourth Guru Nanak says; shanth ghar 1 this is written in four Chhants, to be sung in the first house.

sathigur purakh milaae avagan vikanaa gun ravaa bal raam jeeo |
Satgur Ji says , when it says in shabads in Soohee Raag sometimes bal raam jeeo at the end, it says that in the Laavaan as well, which are the sacred verses of Guru Ram Das Ji we read at the Anand Karaj ceremony. bal raam jeeo means O Raam, O God, jeeo means my beloved ; O me beloved Waheguru I am a sacrifice to you. And Guru Ram Das Ji says I am a sacrifice to you Waheguru. milaae you now meet with the true purakh, the true being, the eternal one, sathigur the true Guru. Why? Because if I meet the true Guru, what will I do? avagan vikanaa, vikanaa – give up; I give up my avagan, my faults, my demerits, my sins. And ravaa I meditate upon the gun, the praises of Akal Purakh. So Guru Ji is telling us that when we meet the Guru we go to give up our ego, our lust, our demerits, all of this we go to give up, and we go only to sing the praises of Akal Purakh. So What Guru Sahib ji saying is this, when you go to the Gurdwara next , Satgur ji is saying to us, and we meet the Guru in sargun roop, in the physical form, that is what we should do. We should not engage in any slander or anything else. We should go with the aim of singing God’s praises and nothing else. Then Satgur ji says:

har har naam dhiaae gurabaanee nith nith chavaa bal raam jeeo |
Meeting the Guru, what will happen – that sikh will dhiaae meditate upon the Naam, WaheGuru ji’s Naam, Naam of the creator and nourisher of all, again and again- nith nith. When I meet with the Guru, I will chavaa – meditate upon, to chant, to sing again and again the Guru’s words. Bless me O Raam ji, O waheguru, O Akal Purakh. And Guru ji then says those people chanting the Bani have been blessed and what happens to them?

gurabaanee sadh meethee laagee paap vikaar gavaaeiaa ||
Those people sadh – forever and forever , Gurbani is meethee seems sweet to them. Those people when they sit down they say Waheguru, when they get up they say Waheguru, when they go to sleep they say Waheguru. With every breath they say Waheguru, every breath they chanting Japji Sahib, Chaupayee Sahib, Raamkali Kee Vaar, Jaitsaree Kee Vaar, all of Gurbani, Bachitta Natak, Akal Ustat. Those people in whose mind Gurbani is forever sweet, paap vikaar gavaaeiaa, vikaar - the sin, the paap, all of the false, all the sins, all of these things gavaaeiaa are taken away. All of these kaam, krodh, lobhe, mohh and ahankaar . If you listen to the worldly song, you listen to it once, you listen to it twice, it gets old. But Gurbani is nith nith. Guru Granth Sahib ji says sahib mera neeth navaa sada sada dataar My Lord is forever new, forever glorious,.my friends it will never be old. The truth was never born therefore truth will never die. aad such jugaad such haibhee such nanak hosee bhi such, Guru Nanak Dev Ji says.

houmai rog gaeiaa bho bhaagaa sehajae sehaj milaaeiaa ||
Those people who have been blessed with reciting Gurbani and in whose mind Gurbani is sweet, their rog disease of haumai – ego within them gaeiaa goes. And after ego goes what second thing leaves? bho bhaagaa, bhaagaa literally means to run away; fear runs away. Look at the life of Gurmukhs such as Sant Gurbachan Singh Ji, the 12th Jathedaar of Damdami Taksal , as Baba Nand Singh Ji, the founder of Nanaksar, Baba Harbhajan Singh Ji, the first Jathedaar of Tarnadal, Missil Shaheeda Hariya Belaan. You look at these people’s lives and there is no bho no fear. Why, because when the ego is lost there is no separation, there is no sense of you and I , there is no akaal and therefore there is none to fear. Then Guru Sahib Ji says sehajae sehaj milaaeiaa In complete peace, in complete poise those people are united into ocean of peace, Waheguru.

kaaeiaa saej gur sabadh sukhaalee giaan thath kar bhogo ||
Guru Sahib Ji says this kaaeiaa, this mind, body and soul is like a bed. This bed only looks beautiful sukhaalee , looks decorated if Guru Shabad is there. If the Guru Shabad is not there, the bed looks barren, is empty, is wasted. This body is wasted. giaan thath kar bhogo But if the Guru Shabad is there upon the bed, glorifying it, making it beautiful, adorning it then what happens? The essence of giaan you will be able to bhogo, you will be able to enjoy it if you have the Guru Shabad within you, within your mind, body and soul. Then what happens?

anadhin sukh maanae nith raleeaa naanak dhur sanjogo |1||
That person anadhin sukh maanae nith raleeaa – anadhin day and night , has sukh – peace, true peace, nith raleeaa and has joy forever, not just that lasts for 5 minutes, Guru Sahib Ji says forever lasting. naanak dhur sanjogo O Nanak upon those who God has blessed with just preordained destiny. Then Guru Sahib Ji says:

sath santhokh kar bhaao kurram kurramaaee aaeiaa bal raam jeeo ||
This is the same lines we read in the Anand Karaj ceremony when there is the engagement part, the kurhmayee but the meanings are very deep. Satgur Ji says the soul bride has adorned herself with sath, with truth. If you want to meet God, if you want to be engaged with God then Guru Ji says this is what you have to do, you have to adorn yourself with truth, santhokh, with contentment, peace and bhaao, with love. kurram kurramaaee aaeiaa bal raam jeeo At the kurhmayee ceremony what happens is that basically it is a meeting of the father of the bride with the father of the groom. And Satgur ji says who is the father of the bride, father of the soul in this. Father of the soul is the Guru. And who is the groom here? This is the divine wedding party with God. The soul is being wedded with the God through the grace of the Guru and this is being personified to us through this Anand Karaj.

santh janaa kar mael gurabaanee gaavaaeeaa bal raam jeeo ||
Who are in this wedding party? Guru ji says this party is made up of the saints. kar mael Meet up with the saints and then do what? gurabaanee gaavaaeeaa bal raam jeeo Sing gurbani, sing the praises of the Akal Purakh. If you want to be engaged with Waheguru this is how you have to live.

baanee gur gaaee param gath paaee panch milae sohaaeiaa ||
When I met the saints I sang the words of the Guru. param gath paaee What happened by singing the words of the Guru, param gath paaee I found the param, highest gath status, and what is that – its liberation. I found liberation. panch milae sohaaeiaa meaning those gursikhs who are panch, who have signs of the Akal Purakh, who are blessed by God, who are God’s beloved, God’s chosen. Those, who Guru Gobind Singh Ji says har har jan doyee ek hain there is no difference between God and His servants, those people Guru Ji says milae sohaaeiaa when you meet those people you will be blessed and you will look beautiful amongst them. And what happens when you meet them?

gaeiaa karodh mamathaa than naathee paakhandd bharam gavaaeiaa ||
Your anger goes – gaeiaa karodh, mamathaa than naathee , the attachment to this body goes. Look at Bhai Mati Das, being cut in half; look at Bhai Sati Das, being burnt alive, they had no attachment to this body. Why? Because they were with their beloved Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji. paakhandd bharam gavaaeiaa, paakhandd means falsehood, outerly displays bharam all doubts gavaaeiaa is taken away with the grace of the Holy.

houmai peer gee sukh paaeiaa aarogath bheae sareeraa ||
The pain peer of haumai ego is taken away, gee. Sukh paaeiaa only then you will find happiness when that is taken away. aarogath bheae sareeraa Sometimes you are asked, how you are doing and you say I am good, I am healthy. But is your mind healthy? Our mind which thinks so many thoughts of lust, so many thoughts of ego, so many thoughts of jealousy, is it healthy, really? Guru Ji says only then your mind, body and soul will be healthy when you meet the saints and you give up your ego.

gur parasaadhee breham pashaathaa naanak gunee geheeraa |2||
Through the grace of the Guru, you pashaathaa realize breham that creatoe God within you. naanak gunee geheeraa O Nanak when you realize this you will know that He is the geheeraa, He is the treasure, He is the ocean of all gun virtue. Now Guru Ji talks about the other side, the manmukhs

manamukh vishurree dhoor mehal n paaeae bal gee bal raam jeeo ||
Satguru Ji says the Manmukhs, the one who follows his or her own mind, yeah, because we are talking about the soul brides, manmukh is her in this context; Satguru Ji says the manmukh, the soul bride who has not realized her Lord and instead follows her own mind. vishurree dhoor- to be separated, and far away. She thinks God is far away and cannot see what she or he does here. The manmukh thinks God cannot see what she or he does here. mehal n paaeae That person will not find the house of God. bal gee That person burns.

anthar mamathaa koor koorr vihaajhae koorr lee bal raam jeeo ||
What burns that person? Within that person there is mamathaa attachment to koor falsehood. Attachment to what, this world, attachment to the cars, to the money, to the slander, to the praise, to the gold, to the diamond, to the jewels, to the rubies, to the money. That is what Satguru Ji is saying here. anthar mamathaa koor Inside that person is attachment to falsehood. koorr vihaajhae That person deals only in koorr, only in falsehood. On Ang 707 in Raag Jaitsree Guru Arjan Dev Ji Maharaj says sunder saej aneaik sukh ras bhogann puraey graehh soin chandan sugandh layae motee heerae mann ichhae sukh maanda kichh nahee visurae so prabh chithh naa aavahaee vishtha kae keerrae bin har naam na saanth hoyee kit bidh mann dheerae Guru Ji, he may have a beautiful bed, he may have all sorts of enjoyments, he may have gold, he may have rubies, he may have fragrances, he may relish all the pleasures of his mind but Guru Ji says without God he is like a maggot in manure, in gandgee. koorr lee bal raam jeeo Those people, they only be in their falsehood . Then Satguru ji says:

koorr kapatt kamaavai mehaa dhukh paavai vin sathigur mag n paaeiaa ||
In the love of koorr, in the love of falsehood the manmukh practice kapatt, deception. Then what happens, that person after deceiving the world mehaa dhukh paavai receives great pain. vin sathigur mag n paaeiaa Without the true Guru, mag n paaeiaa, mag means path; no one will find the path.

oujharr panth bhramai gaavaaree khin khin dhakae khaaeiaa |
Satguru Ji is saying gaavaaree the stupid manmukh, oujharr falls off the path, is lost, panth means path, bhramai, and is deluded by doubt, khin khin dhakae khaaeiaa, khin khin, every second that person simply receives, khaaeiaa in this case does not mean to eat, but to receive dhakae means pushes, literally it means blows. That person, every minute of their lfe is like a punch in their face again and again.

aapae dhaeiaa karae prabh dhaathaa sathigur purakh milaaeae |
aapae Himself, does dhaeiaa karae, has Grace upon that person. Then that person is milaaeae united to the True Guru, the One Being, the Purakh, the Satguru, the True Guru. Then what happens?

janam janam kae vishurrae jan maelae naanak sehaj subhaaeae |3|
But if the Guru wants to do that, then the Guru can unite those people who have been lost with janam janam. Let us do Ardaas to Guru Sahib, Guruji, we have been vishurrae janam janam please maelae, unite us with your jan, with your servants. And those people are joined in that celestial peace.

aaeiaa lagan ganaae hiradhai dhan oumaaheeaa bal raam jeeo |
Satguru ji says, aaeiaa lagan ganaae, again they come back to the soul bride who has been waiting for her husband Lord. That day is coming and what is she doing? The soul bride is ganaae counting off the days hiradhai dhan in her hiradhai, in her heart, dhan, the soul bride is oumaaheeaa, is ecstatic waiting for Akal Purakh, waiting for her husband Lord.

panddith paadhae aan pathee behi vaachaaeeaa bal raam jeeo |
panddith paadhae aan, paadhae literally means astrologer, pandit means religious teachers. But Guruji tells us what the word panddith actually means. Guru Amar Das ji says in Raag Malhaar on Ang 1261-7 of Siri Guru Granth Sahib ji Maharaj so pandit jo tihaaN gunaa kee pand utaarai. He alone is a Pandit who gives up the love of the three qualities. What are the three qualities? Sato, Rajo and Tamo. Sato, the saintly or the meek, Rajo the kingly or the political, Tamo the dark or the evil. He gives up these three qualities and goes beyond that into Akal Purakh. That person Satguru ji says is a Panddith. And Guru Arjan Dev ji says, in Sukhmani Sahib, on Ang 274-13 of Siri Guru Grant Sahib ji so pandit jo man parboDhai. raam naam aatam meh soDhai. That person is a panddith, he alone is a religious scholar, a panddith who instructs his own mind. Looks in his own mind, raam naam aatam meh soDhai, he looks within himself and finds the name of God. So Guruji is saying, not talking about the people who call themselves panddith that deal in falsehood that is not what the Guruji is talking about. Gurujiis saying, that the soul bride sits with the saints and pathee, the fortune within, pathee is translated as almanacs which basically means that when the astrologer writes down the fortune of someone, that is called the pathee and they used that back in the old days to see when the the marriage was done. But according to Gurmat we don’t believe in this as the Sikhs. Guruji takes this to another level. Guruji is saying, that the saints are looking at the pathee as the soul, the soul’s gyaan, gyaan of the Guru. The saints sit down and they look through the Gyaan of the Guru, when will this bride be ready to wed her husband.

pathee vaachaaee man vajee vadhaaee jab saajan sunae ghar aaeae |
pathee vaachaaee man, And those saints, they help the soul bride to purify herself. They look through her almanac the spiritual one, within her soul. vajee vadhaaee, the bride is in complete Bliss jab saajan sunae ghar aaeae, now she can hear her saajan, her Beloved, has come to her house.

gunee giaanee behi mathaa pakaaeiaa faerae thath dhivaaeae |
the gunee, those people who have virtue, and the giaanee, giaanee means wise. Those gunee giaanee those mahapurakhs, those saints have sat down and said faerae thath dhivaaeae wed your Lord at once.

var paaeiaa purakh aganm agochar sadh navathan baal sakhaaee |
var paaeiaa purakh, the bride has been Blessed with the var, the Groom. Which Groom? The Purakh, the Being who is aganm, who is beyond everyone’s mind, agochar, one who cannot be fathomed, whose end cannot be fathomed, that is the Husband of the soul bride. sadh navathan baal sakhaaee He is the sakhaaee, He is her friend from the early *****. Look at this beautiful metaphor that Guruji is saying, that the soul bride has known her husband Lord all her life. She has known God all her life, but we have fallen into the category of manmukhs. May we meet with those saints who bring us onto the path.

naanak kirapaa kar kai maelae vishurr kadhae n jaaee |4|1|
O Nanak! when God, when Akal Purakh Blesses us with His Grace and maelae, unites us, we can never vishurr we can never be separated from Akal Purakh again. May Guru Ram Das ji Bless us, that we meet the saints who put us on the path, who unite us with Guru Sahib ji. Guru Ram Das ji says in Raag Gauree on Ang 164 of Siri Guru Granth Sahib tay har jan har maylhu ham pi-aaray. I could meet with those beloved saints, beloved Gursikhs, jin mili-aa dukh jaahi hamaaray. ||1|| rahaa-o, meeting them all of our pains, all of our sorrows will depart.
