AMdirkptusdwduKuhYmnmuKiDAwnunlwgY]
a(n)dhar kapatt sadhaa dhukh hai manamukh dhhiaan n laagai ||
AMdir kptu sdw duKu hY mnmuK iDAwnu n lwgY ]
Fraud and hypocrisy within bring constant pain; the self-willed manmukh does not practice meditation.

dhukh vich kaar kamaavanee dhukh varathai dhukh aagai ||
duK ivic kwr kmwvxI duKu vrqY duKu AwgY ]
Suffering in pain, he does his deeds; he is immersed in pain, and he shall suffer in pain hereafter.

karamee sathigur bhaetteeai thaa sach naam liv laagai ||
krmI siqguru BytIAY qw sic nwim ilv lwgY ]
By his karma, he meets the True Guru, and then, he is lovingly attuned to the True Name.

naanak sehajae sukh hoe a(n)dharahu bhram bho bhaagai ||1||

O Nanak, he is naturally at peace; doubt and fear run away and leave him. ||1||

guramukh sadhaa har ra(n)g hai har kaa naao man bhaaeiaa ||
gurmuiK sdw hir rMgu hY hir kw nwau min BwieAw ]
The Gurmukh is in love with the Lord forever. The Name of the Lord is pleasing to his mind.

gurmuiKvyKxubolxwnwmujpqsuKupwieAw]
guramukh vaekhan bolanaa naam japath sukh paaeiaa ||
gurmuiK vyKxu bolxw nwmu jpq suKu pwieAw ]
The Gurmukh beholds and speaks the Naam, the Name of the Lord; chanting the Naam, he finds peace.

naanak guramukh giaan pragaasiaa thimar agiaan a(n)dhhaer chukaaeiaa ||2||

O Nanak, the spiritual wisdom of the Gurmukh shines forth; the black darkness of ignorance is dispelled. ||2||

The filthy, foolish, self-willed manmukhs die.

The Gurmukhs are immaculate and pure; they keep the Lord enshrined within their hearts.

Prays Nanak, listen, O Siblings of Destiny!

Serve the True Guru, and the filth of your ego shall be gone.

a(n)dhar sa(n)saa dhookh viaapae sir dhha(n)dhhaa nith maar ||

Deep within, the pain of skepticism afflicts them; their heads are constantly assaulted by worldly entanglements.

dhoojai bhaae soothae kabahu n jaagehi maaeiaa moh piaar ||
dUjY Bwie sUqy kbhu n jwgih mwieAw moh ipAwr ]
Asleep in the love of duality, they never wake up; they are attached to the love of Maya.

naam n chaethehi sabadh n veechaarehi eihu manamukh kaa beechaar ||
nwmu n cyqih sbdu n vIcwrih iehu mnmuK kw bIcwr ]
They do not remember the Name, and they do not contemplate the Word of the Shabad; this is the view of the self-willed manmukhs.

har naam n bhaaeiaa birathhaa janam gavaaeiaa naanak jam maar karae khuaar ||3||

They do not love the Lord’s Name, and they lose their life uselessly. O Nanak, the Messenger of Death attacks them, and humiliates them. ||3||

He alone is a true king, whom the Lord blesses with true devotion.

People pledge their allegiance to him; no other store stocks this merchandise, nor deals in this trade.

bhagath janaa ko sanamukh hovai s har raas leae vaemukh bhas paahu ||
Bgq jnw kau snmuKu hovY su hir rwis ley vymuK Bsu pwhu ]
That humble devotee who turns his face towards the Guru and becomes sunmukh, receives the Lord’s wealth; the faithless baymukh, who turns his face away from the Guru, gathers only ashes.

har kae naam kae vaapaaree har bhagath hehi jam jaagaathee thinaa naerr n jaahu ||

The Lord’s devotees are dealers in the Name of the Lord. The Messenger of Death, the tax-collector, does not even approach them.

Place yourself beneath all men’s feet, and you will be uplifted; serve Him in this way.

aapas tay oopar sabh jaanhu ta-o dargeh sukh paavhu. ||1||
Awps qy aUpir sB jwxhu qau drgh suKu pwvhu ]1]
Know that all are above you, and you shall find peace in the Court of the Lord. ||1||

O Saints, speak that speech which purifies the gods and sanctifies the divine beings.

As Gurmukh, chant the Word of His Bani, even for an instant. ||1||Pause||

parpanch chhod sahj ghar baishu jhoothaa kahhu na ko-ee
prpMcu Coif shj Gir bYshu JUTw khhu n koeI ]
Renounce your fraudulent plans, and dwell in the celestial palace; do not call anyone else false.

siqgurimlhunvYiniDpwvhuienibiDqquibloeI]2]
satgur milhu navai niDh paavhu in biDh tat bilo-ee. ||2||
siqgur imlhu nvY iniD pwvhu ien ibiD qqu ibloeI ]2]
Meeting with the True Guru, you shall receive the nine treasures; in this way, you shall find the essence of reality. ||2||

bharam chukaavahu gurmukh liv laavhu aatam cheenahu bhaa-ee
Brmu cukwvhu gurmuiK ilv lwvhu Awqmu cInhu BweI ]
Eradicate doubt, and as Gurmukh, enshrine love for the Lord; understand your own soul, O Siblings of Destiny.

nikat kar jaanhu sadaa parabh haajar kis si-o karahu buraa-ee. ||3||

Know that God is near at hand, and ever-present. How could you try to hurt anyone else? ||3||

satgur mili-ai maarag muktaa sehjay milay su-aamee.
siqguir imilAY mwrgu mukqw shjy imly suAwmI ]
Meeting with the True Guru, your path shall be clear, and you shall easily meet your Lord and Master.

Dhan Dhan say jan jinee kal meh har paa-i-aa jan naanak sad kurbaanee. ||4||2||
Dnu Dnu sy jn ijnI kil mih hir pwieAw jn nwnk sd kurbwnI ]4]2]
Blessed, blessed are those humble beings, who, in this Dark Age of Kali Yuga, find the Lord. Nanak is forever a sacrifice to them. ||4||2||
