Guru Amardasji Maharaj, the complete embodiment of seva in the house of Guru Nanak, is talking to us in the Soohee Raag. The Soohee Raag coloured in the red crimson color of God’s Love and in these love colored words Guru Amardasji says,
ik oankaar sathigur prasaadh |
There is One eternal, creative, destructive, nourishing Being who is found through the sat – ever True Guru’s grace.
vaar soohee kee salokaa naal mehalaa 3 |
This is the Vaar of Soohee, the beginning by Guru Amardasji with Saloks. The first salok of this vaar says,
soohai vaes dhohaaganee par pir raavan jaae |
Guruji says, not only the one who is attached to the Lord has these outer robes but also the one who is faking it, one who is pretending, the one who is false inside, who doesn’t have the intentions of truth. She is also in these red robes. The dhohaaganee, the soul bride who is off the path, who has lost her way, even if she has the soohai vaes, the robes of love, robes of red crimson color – But what does she do? – she goes to seek enjoyment with par pir – with the pir, with the Lord, with the master of another (Par means another). So what is Guruji saying to us as a soul bride? Guruji is saying, your master, your Lord, your all is Waheguru. But what do we do? But instead of focusing on Waheguru we focus on another master. What master is that? That’s maya – the false illusion, the falsehood. We dress ourselves in the red robes of his love but inside we have not attuned our mind, our heart and our soul to loving Waheguru all around us. Instead of seeing Waheguru in all things, we see what enjoyment we can get out on a material level.
pir shoddiaa ghar aapanai mohee dhoojai bhaae |
Pir shoddiaa- we have left, we have discarded our pir, our Lord, our husband, our Waheugru, our Creator who is ghar aapanai – who is the master of our own homes, who is the master of our totality. Mohee dhoojai bhaae – we have been attached to the bhaae – to the love of duality. We have lost the sense of our real master – the master of our own soul and we are enticed by the love of falsehood.
Mithaa kar kai khaaeiaa bahu saadhahu vadhiaa rog |
What’s worse is that we find this falsehood sweet! Khaaeiaa – we consume all this falsehood but bahu saadhahu vadhiaa rog – the disease inside us of egotism, of greed, of attachment, of desire increases and just makes this disease worse. We think that getting a new car, getting new clothes will satiate our appetite but instead it sets your appetite on fire even more. You get the newest thing, then another thing comes out and you want the other thing. If you throw wood onto the fire, what are you going to do? Put out the fire or keep it going more ablaze? That’s what we are doing! We are simply adding to the fire.
sudh bhathaar har shoddiaa fir lagaa jaae vijog |
We have given up our sudh bhathaar – our pure Husband, our pure lord Waheguru, Hari. Then what happens? Our soul bride suffers, from what? From vijog – from separation. But Guruji says,
guramukh hovai s palattiaa har raathee saaj seegaar |
If someone becomes a Gurmukh – follows the Guru eternally, then what happens? That person palattiaa – that person turns away from this falsehood, from this enjoyment of falsehood and seeks the path of Truth. Har raathee saaj seegaar – that person becomes imbued with the love of Hari, with the love of Waheguru. That soul bride dresses herself in those seegaars, in those decorations which please the Lord. What are those decorations? Humility, love, compassion, kind heartedness.
sehaj sach pir raaviaa har naamaa our dhaar |
That person, that Gurmukh, that lover of God, with sehaj – with natural ease enjoys the Lord. That person enjoys the Lord in natural intuitive balance. Why? Because that person has har naamaa – that vibration of God’s name, that vibration of Waheguru within their heart.
aagiaakaaree sadhaa suohaagan aap maelee karathaar |
The one who is aagiaakaaree, the one who follows all of the orders of Waheguru, the one who follows all of the commands of Waheguru is forever virtuous, is forever full of peace and happiness. aap maelee karathaar – the Creator Waheguru himself joins that soul bride to him.
naanak pir paaeiaa har saachaa sadhaa suohaagan naar |1|
O Nanak! That person who has Waheguru as their pir – as their Husband Lord, that soul bride is sada suhaagan, is forever happy, is forever Blessed, is forever virtuous.
In the second part of the Shabad Guru Amardasji says,
soohaveeeae nimaaneeeae so sahu sadhaa samaal |
Oh the soohaveeeae, Oh the one who is colored in the red color of love, Oh red-robed one, Oh red-robed soul bride, you are colored on the outside. Oh humble one! always keep that Waheguru in your thoughts. Then what will happen?
naanak janam savaarehi aapanaa kul bhee shuttee naal |2|
What will happen? You will savaarehi, you will fulfill your own life, satisfy your own life. Aapanaa kul bhee shuttee naal – your generations and your family – those who associate will also be saved and liberated.
In the last part of the Shabad Guru Amardas Daasji says,
aapae thakhath rachaaeioun aakaas pathaalaa |
Waheguru himself has made his throne in the aakaas, in the sky and the pathaalaa – in the world’s below the world.
hukamae dharathee saajeean sachee dharam saalaa |
By Waheguruji’s hukam, by His Divine command, He saajeean – he created this dharathee – this world as a sachee dharma saalaa. This world was created to be a sachee, a true dharma saalaa. This world is meant to be the house of dharma – the house of righteousness.
aap oupaae khapaaeidhaa sachae dheen dhaeiaalaa |
Waheguru himself creates and destroys. He is sachae – True forever and He is dheen dhaeiaalaa – He is merciful to the weak, to the meek.
sabhanaa rijak sanbaahidhaa thaeraa hukam niraalaa |
Oh Waheguru sabhanaa rijak – rijak means food, sustenance, support. You give support to sabhanaa – to everyone. Those people who believe in You, You Bless them. Those people who don’t believe in You, You Bless them. Those who meditate upon You, You Bless them. Those who don’t meditate upon You, You Bless them. Thaeraa hukam niraalaa – Your hukam, your command is niraalaa. Your Will, Blessings are separate to everyone else. There is no one who is a giver as great as You.
aapae aap varathadhaa aapae prathipaalaa |1|
You Yourself pervade and permeate through everything. Prathipaalaa – You Yourself look after and cherish everything.
What we can say and conclude from this shabad is that Guruji is saying to us, Oh soul bride attune yourself to the Lord. You will enjoy your Husband Lord and you will become one with Him and see Him in everything and everywhere.
